First of all: Yes, Reyna's house is beautiful and I do not doubt that she is a skilled chef of high standing. My partner and I travel a lot, are not professional chefs but do cook cuisine from a large variety of countries. Coming from Europe and Asia, we both had none to very little knowledge of Mexican food and... More

Reyna's cooking class was a highlight of our wonderful visit to Oaxaca. We were picked up and taken to Reyna's beautiful outdoor kitchen in a picturesque village. Next we visited the local market and returned with the ingredients for a multi-course meal that we all helped put together under Reyna's excellent guidance. There were about eight of us (the group... Our day with Reyna in Teotitlan was delightful. Once we arrived in the village, we headed to the market, and Reyna filled each of our baskets with cheese, vegetables, fruits, and sticky buns which we ate with hot chocolate before we began our class. We loved learning to cook on the comal and grind the multitude of ingredients to make... More

Zapoteco takes you back in time with her hands on, no machine, cooking class. The small local market of Teotitlan is one of the loveliest I have visited. Very orderly, clean and quiet. Great cheese tasting opportunity. Back at her family compound we dove into preparation of the days menu. Learning to use the traditional method of grinding corn for... More

When our friends decided not to join us on vacation, I asked my husband if he wanted to come to the cooking class and he unexcitedly said yes. In retrospect, when I asked him his favorite event of our two week trip, he said the cooking class was. I was thrilled to learn how to make three types of tamales... More

I second all the other positive reviews of El Sabor Zapoteco's cooking classes. Our group enjoyed visiting the village of Teotitlan, shopping in the market there, and cooking in an outdoor kitchen. Reyna is an excellent teacher.

Travelling with two teen girls, this cooking and eating class was voted their favorite experience of our Oaxacan stay. High praise! Terrific food; authentic experience with the Zapotec and Mexican culture; lovely place to cook and eat; very nice folks teaching and helping with the class. Worth the price and the drive from Oaxaca city to Teotitlan. It's wonderful to... More

I had heard of Reyna Mendoza for years and on this trip to Oaxaca I was finally able to have a class. What a special experience on several levels. First, I've taken three other cooking classes in Oaxaca, liked them all, but this one shot to #1. Why? It's in Teotitlán, so we're already deep into the pueblo life that... More

We have traveled extensively all over the world and this is one of the best travel experiences we have ever had! The time with Reyna allowed us to really get a feel of the local zapoteca culture as Reyna serves as a conduit to her people. We started with a visit to her delightful local market where we were able... More

We are very glad to have met Reyna Mendoza this was an incredible experience. Being a Mexican chef I have to say that Reyna is the best if you want to learn about the authentic cuisine of my country. The visit to the extraordinary market in her town and the open kitchen she has is just want I would like... More
