About
A partnership between the Royal Air Force and Lincolnshire County Council provides public access to the home of the RAF Battle Of Britain Memorial Flight at RAF Coningsby. The RAF BBMF hangar is located within the boundaries of RAF Coningsby and viewing the flight’s historic aircraft at close quarters is available only by guided tour. You will be shown around the hangar by volunteer guides, many of whom have first hand experience of the aircraft. They give freely of their time, being keen to ensure the public appreciate this living tribute to all RAF aircrew and ground crew who gave their lives in the Second World War .

Must visit! We also had a free Typhoon flying display!
Oct 2021
The tour around the hanger was very interesting and informative, our tour guide was very knowledgeable. It was great to see the planes and the RAF staff working on them. Being near the Lancaster was awesome. At the end of the tour we saw a Typhoon complete a flying display. Fabulous!
The shop has a wide range of souvenirs, car park is free and free entry to the shop.
A very good experience and would visit again without hesitation when in the area.

Really enjoyable very reasonably priced visit. James the guide was very knowledgeable. Wheelchair friendly. Would visit again and hopefully one of the BBMF would be up flying.

Just fabulous!

A great experience. Professionally organised, tempting shop (I just had to buy one of their fleeces!), excellent guide (thanks Patrick!), and a lengthy tour with so much information. You get really close to the aircraft, unrestricted photography, and a fabulous opportunity to meet the fleet.
Book in advance to ensure a tour slot and avoid disappointment. I loved it all, and so did my wife, so it must be good!

A living memrial to those who designed, flew and maintained these iconic aircraft in action
Sep 2021
We only had a limited amount of time to visit so booked a tour on line.

We were warmly received on arrival and had an opportunity to look around the exhibition and the very well stocked shop before the tour started.

Our guide was ex-RAF and we had a well informed explanation of the developemnt of the Spitfire through different Marks as well as the Hurricane, Dakota, the Lancaster (which had returned to Coningsby a few days before) and their armament.

As has been mentioned, these are aircraft in operational condition and being contantly worked on, so no two days' visits will be quite the same.

We found it a very moving experience.

We hope sincerely that the skills of the engineers and fitters of the BoB Memorial Flight will keep these flying memorials to the pilots, aircrew and ground staff who flew and mainatined them in action, operational for many years to come.

Thank you.

Have wanted to visit for years and was not disappointed. The guide was extremely knowledgeable and as he been an RAF navigator, understood the technical side of flight as well as the history.

The Lancaster wasn’t available due to waiting to come back from Duxford, however this did not really affect the tour. The shop was reasonably priced and all staff were very informed. I wouldn’t recommend it for children unless they are real plane enthusiasts as there is nothing to touch or do. However the exhibition was very informative.

Lovely place to visit

Highly recommend the tour. Best to book in advance. Its even worth paying the £25 pound to join, and get free entry.
Tour is interesting. Only criticism is that it would be nice if perhaps visitors could get closer to the aircraft, especially the Spitfires and perhaps get the chance to view the cockpits.
Overall 10/10. RAF coningsby is a fantastic base.

Book your tour in advance

Thankfully we had booked our tour but a few people left disappointed. You have to acknowledge that this is a working museum so we didn’t see some of the planes as they were either displaying/fly pasts or away having maintenance work done. We did get to see the spitfires and chipmunks and our guide was extremely knowledgeable. We’ll be back again.

Great visit to the Battle of Britain memorial flight at Coningsby.

Great to view and learn about our prestigious historic aircraft of the Battle of Britain Memorial flight at Coningsby. Very knowledgeable guide James took us round. He made the visit very interesting. Answered any questions thrown at him thoroughly and patiently. Can't wait to return when the Lancaster is back home, though the Dakota, Hurricanes and Spitfires are well worth seeing. Lovely also that as we got to the open large hanger door there were several typhoons ready to make their way to the runway lined up on the tarmac.

Great value for money, go there

We pre booked our tour, very worthwhile, others were turned away as the tours were full. Our guide was very knowledgeable and really held our attention. The Lancaster was offsite for repairs, but the spits and hurricane (including watching an engine running trial) filled the time admirably. Super.

We visited today with my family and had a brilliant time. The tour guide we had was called Gavin and he was outstanding. Extremely knowledgeable and had some great stories and very interesting facts to tell us. Seeing the BBMF planes in the hanger was fantastic. It was great value for money and would definitely recommend going if you are in the area
