We took bus from Hachinohe and intended to stop at Ishigedo to walk to nenokuchi ferry terminal. We decided to change our mind last minute and stopped at Chisholm-Itami to walk there (which is about 1.6 km). The weather was cold with the winds, so...More
I loved this walk, even in heavy rain with mud and water underfoot. It had been raining for a couple of days so the track was very wet and muddy and the stream was flowing strongly. There is not a lot of colour in the...More
The combination of the forest, river and the numerous waterfalls gives you energy and serenity. Fantastic! The Oirase river reminded me of Merced River at Yosemite National Park, but it's more refined with each curve.
We drove along the stream. There are many pretty waterfalls along the way. Not the kind that are absolutely breathtaking, but they are serene and up close. There are nice trails along the stream but it was rainy when we went so we didn't go...More
It is a must-go if you like nature. The view and water is gorgeous. Select a start and end to fit your physical condition and company. But be aware there are not many restrooms and water supply along the way.
I recommend everyone that goes to Japan and goes to some places far from mass touristic areas like Lake Towada and Oirase stream. Take a bus from hachinohe JR station around 9am and go down 4 stops from the lake then walk. After that take...More
Perhaps there are a lot nice places like this in other countries but for someone from HK, the different views along the stream is both breath-taking and impressive. We went on a day when it was raining but we got a car. So instead of...More

Oirase Mountan Stream is just a stream leading to Towada Lake and being a very popular walking trail for visitors both local and overseas. There is a vehicular road by the side of the stream with onsen hotels located on certain spots. Scenic sights can easily be found on both sides of the stream particularly relating to running water and different sized waterfalls. The whole stream of about 1.6 KM long is open to public free but there will be traffic jams on the way during autumn period when the drivers drop down their cars and take photos on the way with multi-colored tree-leaves alongside the route.
As far as I know, the easiest way from Hirosaki to Oirase is by way of JR. Take the early local train from Hirosaki JR Station to Aomori JR Station. The terminal of JR bus to Oirase is just in front of Aomori JR Station. I... More
As far as I know, the easiest way from Hirosaki to Oirase is by way of JR. Take the early local train from Hirosaki JR Station to Aomori JR Station. The terminal of JR bus to Oirase is just in front of Aomori JR Station. I do not recommend you to take the bus at Shin Aomori JR station because this is the second bus stop of the route. During rush period in spring time, you can only secure a seat at Aomori Station (first bus stop of the bus route to Oirase). Have a nice trip but do check the time table for the bus route so as to adjust your time to take the train from Hirosaki.
