We visited in July on a daytrip, so did not see the famous autumn foliage, but even then I found this to be a highly enjoyable experience. The walk itself was quite easy, and I wish we had more time to cover more of the area. We walked about 3 km, and got to see 2 waterfalls.

I was hesitant about taking the almost 3hr bus ride from Aomori to Nenokuchi. Just wasn't sure if the stream was worth the ride. Well, it was! I had no regrets at all. Firstly, the bus ride was pleasant with about 3 stops along the way for toilet breaks as well as to allow passengers to get a drink/snack. Once... More

I got there at May, 2015, and stayed at a private hotel near there on the previous day. A staff who worked at the hotel told me that I should go there early morning, until 5AM, to take photos because it would get too bright to take and there would be an increase in visitors. She was completely right!! I... More

It's certainly worthwhile to walk alongside this awesome stream for a better appreciation of the beauty of nature.

It was an amazing hike!! Saw all the waterfalls along the hike and would do it again!! Make sure you bring snacks, water and hiking shoes and sticks. Depending on where you start you can see all the waterfalls. Is about a 5-6 mile hike one way. So keep in mind the return time and suggest going in the morning... More

This is a great walk, with lots of waterfalls and a good long beautiful walk. The transport is not the best, so if you can, rent a car, or rent bikes from Towada Backpackers. You have to watch the bus schedules if you are riding the bus. In the fall it is amazing.

If you like to take photo, it is a very good place. During the end of October to early November, the red leaves are everywhere. To walk through the whole stream, it took a few hours. All the length is more than 14Km. So my suggestion is , to stay at 2 nights here, then you can see it in... More

It's a stunningly beautiful walk, easy and well marked. Pleasant unless you get stuck behind a slow moving tour group. Don't miss a ferry ride across the lake however. The colour of the trees on the lake shore were far more spectacular than those along the oirase stream.

A short 14km long trail, soft ground, few obstacles, pretty flat, gorgeous scenery and the soft ground make it easy on the knees. Best run in the early morning before the tourist crowds arrive. Start at Oirase Hoshinoya Hotel or at trail head at Lake Towada. Bring your own bottled water. Oh yes also bring a camera if you're happy... More

Hiking the Oirase Stream trail in Aomori Prefecture was an awesome adventure! I went in late-June on a day trip from Aomori City. There is no train service so you have to go by bus (or drive). (Buses do not operate during winter - early Nov to Apr.) It’s a JR bus so you can use your JR Train Pass... More
