Generally speaking, the Oirase Stream is hard to access by public transport during winter due to road closure, but the winter sight is awesome which is something I realy wanted to see. So I joined one of the tours that runs between the Lake Towada WInter Tale venue the the Oirase Stream (there are day or night tours). The 2-hour tour took us to 5 scenic spots along the stream to see the frozen falls, which are lighted up by a van that followed us. The local tour guide is able to communicate in English. A translated information card was also available. Night at Oirase Stream is eerie but mesmerizing. I'm glad I had a chance to admire the stream and the falls at such a special time of the year and I will definitely come back again in other seasons!…

Plan before you go for the trip. Bus from Aomori allows you to stop at your prefered place so that you can hike up the stream. If you do not own a JR pass, it will be wise to buy the 5000yen pass where we can have unlimited travel to this place for 2 days.

Good to walk here during Autumn, many good spots view to stop and take photos, if we come a bit late, it is the good time because not crowed

Start early .. total Around 14 km if you walk all the way you can take JR tohoku bus and stop where you like to start , we managed 12km n took the bus back to Yasumiya . we love the walk ... the scenery is really tranquil

We spent two nights at sukayu onsen to see oirase stream and the lakes. They’re all very beautiful and is worth the trip . We deliberately do the walk on a weekday to avoid the crowd ( it’s very popular as a domestic destination among japs) . We rented a car and stop at key sites and walk short distances . We’re planning on going again in the summers when the weather is warmer to see the streams with green foliage…
