It is the widest waterfalls along Oirase Gorge
Aug 2019
Along 14 km of Oirase Gorge, there are several waterfalls(taki), currents (nagare) and steady flows of streams. Choshi-otaki is the biggest and widest falls(so it gets name of otaki) with heavy volume of water rushing down from the sheer cliff of bedrocks. It's located on the west side of Oirase route; takes 21 minutes bus ride from JR's Towada Lake bus terminal.

JR Bus runs the entire Oirase Gorge route between Ne-no-kuchi on west end and Towada-bashi Bridge at Yakeyama on east end; after that the traffic route splits to two directions-one leads to Aomori/Shin-Aomori, the other leads to Hachinohe. So, if you start from Towada Onsen Village/Yakeyama it would be the one stop before Ne-no-kuchi, the end of Oirase Gorge route. It's easy access from the roadside and the designated walking path. There are viewing points from the upper level and steps go down to the pool level. Great location for picture taking with backgrounds of Choshi-otaki. Along Oirase Gorge, it's probably the easiest one to access it close-up. It's one of the favorable locations for amateur and professional photographers.

Everyone goes there
Jul 2019
It is one of the main attractions along Oirase Keiryuu. It is the place where I saw the most people along the stream. During summer, the large amount of water makes the view of the waterfall more spectacular. Don't miss it.

Worth a minor stop
May 2019 • Couples
This is pretty, on both sides of the road, so is worth a minor stop of say 10 minutes but if pressed for time it can be omitted

Probably the largest waterfall along the Oirase Streams and River trail
Oct 2018 • Friends
Stopped at several spots along the trail to get photographs. This is probably the largest waterfall along the trail.

Beautiful Waterfall
Oct 2018 • Couples
I made a returned visit this autumn to this favourite waterfall of mine in just to see it among the colorful foliage. Great and still roaring with all it's might in the sudden 2 to 3 m drop in elevation! There was quite a big crowd of visitors here during this time of the year though.

It lies along the Oraise stream among a beautiful forest and an easy shortwalk at the bus stop and small unmarked carpark off the main road parallel to the stream.

Largest Waterfall along the river
Oct 2018 • Couples
Choshi Otaki Waterfall should be regarded as the largest waterfall along the Oirase River. It was located at the halfway of the stream. The flow of water down to the lower level together with the different colored tree-leaves formed beautiful background for photo-taking. This is the "must see" tourist spot in the area. Highly recommended.

A waterfall so close to the walking path
Oct 2018 • Couples
It's a good spot to rest in the hike along the stream. Tourist tends to stay here for snacks and photos, and even set up their tripods for group photos.

not a long walk to see the falls and they are beautiful
Oct 2018 • Family
I enjoyed breakfast under the falls. The weather was perfect and the sun shined just right on the falls.

A good fall in a scenic area
Jul 2018 • Couples
We visited these falls as part of a river walk. This came at the end of our walk. Lovely to see in the context of the river. So tranquil on a summer’s day

Highlight of Oirase Stream
Oct 2017 • Friends
Choshi Otaki Waterfall should be the largest and best waterfall found along Oirase Stream. The waterfall would be more impressive in autumn when the surrounding tree leaves turned into orange/red color. In order to preserve this spot and avoid unnecessary accident around the area, part of the waterfall frontage has been fenced off. Nonetheless, this spot should still be the most attractive spot along the stream.
