This church captures the essence of the Camino as well as any on the trail, and better than the big cathedral in Santiago itself.

We stopped at the Cathedral to collect a stamp on our pilgrim's passport and it's right across the river from the convent where you can collect your Pedtronia certificate too if you don't have the time to queue (in summer) in Santiago de Compostella.

As with many of the reviews, a must-stop along my Camino Portugués pilgrimage included the Iglesia de Santiago in Padrón. My self guided tour was an immersion into the history that included the significance Pedrón. The sister selling souvenirs and stamping sellos for the credencial was so friendly and welcoming. Worth exploring during your travels.

Very beautiful church - with very friendly staff who gave us a stamp for the pilgrims passport - and also pointed out where the original stone/mooring point where the boat that carried St James' remains tied itself too... The stone outside by the river is just for tourists (although of course we took photos there too!). We also went for mass at this church (in Spanish) - and the Priest was very welcoming to us and other pilgrims.

Padron is known that the ship which carried the coffin of Santiago from Jerusalem was arrived here. The stone for holding that ship is here in the cathedral. So there are many pictures about it and statues of Santiago also

On the pilgrim route, the Church of St James in Padron contains the Pedron, a large stone which is said to be the stone that the boat carrying the body of Saint James was tied up to when its location, now in the church, was then part of the harbour, long since silted up and built over.

Padron still retains its medieval streets, but most of the buildings have been replaced apart from the churches and the Carmen convent up on the hill.

Two of its most famous citizens are the writer Rosalia de Castro and the Nobel prize-winning author Cailio Jose Cela and there are other statues in the town to noteworthy citizens.

This is a very impressive church. You can get a stamp for your credential here. When I showed up it was just before mass. The history here makes this a must.

Church, where the Padrón is located. Stone where according to history, was tied the boat where the pilgrim Santiago came.
