Smederevo's 15th century fortress is one of the largest plain fortress in Europe. It was built in year 1430. It was Serbia's medieval state last capitol city before Turks conquered Serbia. Currently a lot of restoration is being done (fortress walls, medieval church, Despot's palace,...More

Getting here is an easy affair. Just a 90 minute bus ride from Belgrade. A quick 5 minute walk from the bus station has you at the fortress. The massive walls can be seen from a distance, and the beautiful, imposing gate is straight out...More

Nice big park surrounded by desolately fortress walls. Very dirty arround fortress, a lot of trash by the walls. Nice view on the river Danube. With much more care can be a nice place...

Smederevo fortress is the best place to visit in town. The compound is very big and the courtyard of the fortress is turned into a park now. With a nominal fee you enter the main buildings of the fortress from where you get incredible views...More

This historical place has huge importance for the culture of this country. Smederevo was a capital of Serbia so it's not strange that this fortress is placed here. The exact place is along 2 rivers. The fortress consists of "Big town" and the "Small town"....More

One of the places you have to visit when you come in Serbia. Big fortres with a great view on Danube river. Fortres was damaged in explosion in WW II, but still amazing. They are reparing fortres right now.

Unlike Belgrade Fortress and Kalemegdan Park, the area within the walls of Smederevo Fortress is undeveloped--just grassy space--but the fortress itself, the actual fortification overlooking the Danube, is more extensive. It's a photogenic place (beautiful view of the Danube, with lots of couples taking selfies)...More

I have recently visited Smederevo Fortress, and strongly recommend visiting it to all travelers interested in history. Approximately 30 miles from Belgrade, Serbia, a medieval Smederevo Fortress was the short-lived capital of Serbia in the Middle Ages (the 15th Century). It was built by Despot...More

Definitely a reason to visit Smederevo. A site of high historical prominence, unfortunately poorly maintained and organized. At a busy day you night happen to line on the staircases that are not well secured.

I went to Smederevo in a weekend getaway. The fortress is one of the main landlines in this town and you should not miss it. Although it is not as big as the Belgrade or Golubac fortresses, Smederevo fortress has its unique charm.
