When we visited the Silver lake/Srebreno ezero/ we also went to Smederevo town and visited the Smederevo Fortress, not far from the town, at the Danube river. It is not as impressive as Belgrade an Novi Sad fortresses but is a nice place to visit and spend about 1 hour.

Getting here is an easy affair. Just a 90 minute bus ride from Belgrade. A quick 5 minute walk from the bus station has you at the fortress. The massive walls can be seen from a distance, and the beautiful, imposing gate is straight out of a movie set. It's gigantic.......and leaves you feeling small just as it was meant.... More

The fortress per se is pretty impressive, with a wonderful background thanks to the Danube. However, it feels pretty empy, as the inside is mainly made of a park.

This Fortress represents the most monumental military place in Serbia and one of the biggest medieval fortifications. Biggest river fortress in Europe. For history lovers is the right place to visit.

Great park inside, in very good shape considering it was never renovated. Very flat ground comparing to the fortress in Belgrade :D With no doubt worth visiting!

This is a historical fortress with a beautiful view. One can learn more about the invasion of ottoman empire when visiting this place too.
