Decided to go on a slight detour on our drive down south. The roads heading there can be very narrow but you will be rewarded with beautiful views reminiscent of those along Great Ocean Road in Australia. But not worth to make a special trip

I was there when weather was perfect for taking pictures. Probably you a car to go there and partially road was narrow and made you worry whether you are on the right way...but it worth it.

If you've ever stood on the coast of any country you have doubtless seen the sea. Standing here is no different. Godzilla does not rise from the depths.

Muroran is often overlooked in Japan touristic guides (there maybe an 'industrial city' - which it is - footnote).
Tokkari-sho is not even in most cars' GPS (while the also very nice Chikyu Misaki close by is duly recorded)!
Still, this is one of the best seaside vistas I have seen in Japan, pictures can not do it justice: Normandy-like cliffs, small island rocks, rolling green hills, WOW!

The location and the view is great if we were allowed to go the edge of the cliff. Not being able to go to the cliff takes away all its charm of this place.
Also the beach is filled with storm debris and not well maintained. It could be an amazing spot with just little work.

Found this little slice of heaven by chance while looking for somewhere a little more interesting to do the final dives for a PADI Open Water course. Great coastline, only a few tetrapods! The beach has a lot of storm debris and a few derelict houses on it, but is quite beautiful anyway.

Park on the grass off the road and follow the path with the railing down to the beach; abt 200 meters.

The south end has a very good dive through the kelp-covered boulders, out to a mini-wall near the point with soft corals, tunicates, fans, fish and even nudibranches! Around the point is a second wall and overhang with good fish life and great colors. Max depth is 14m, but most is less than 10. Surgy at the point, but no dangerous currents encountered in 4 dives over 2 days.
