Chiesa Madre San Giorgio dates back to 18c and serves as the main Locorotondo Church. It's set on a small square within the old town tiny alleys.
Likewise many towns in Italy a modest and simple Baroque facade hides terrific interiors with great marble art, two side altars and beautiful dome.

Well, maybe that's a bit strong: Ostuni is beautiful, but very touristy, whereas Locorotondo is still very much as it was before Puglia became popular (the tourists are here too, but are better hidden). The church is indeed worth the visit, with a very interesting crypt. Take a walk through the streets of the town, admire the balconies with their plants, and the local craftsmanship. For those travellers who like lace, there is a beautiful shop at the entrance to the town, run by a lady who makes the lace herself.

A very quite church full of light and beautiful stone work. There are "glass windows" in the floor that let you see the sight of old foundations of the previous church. The church is dedicated to San Giorgio, the patron saint of the city.

Nice quiet church to take a rest and say a prayer in experiencing the beauty of the historic old town of Locorotondo. This was one of the most impressive towns so far in Puglia

This is an elegant church, very finely maintained and well worth a visit, set in an attractive town. What I found particularly interesting about it was the crypt. Behind glass doors in the crypt the parish displays its archive, which I have never seen done in a parish church before, and some of the treasures from its sacristy (more common). The altar at the back is the chapel of purgatory and through glass panels in the floor you can look down to an ossorary.

Located in the heart of the old town this church from late 18th century is dedicated to St George the Martyr. Nice facade, interior is pleasant but nothing spectacular. Anyway worth a quick look inside as you're strolling through the white streets of Locorotondo.

This is clearly the center of the old town. You have seen this before if you have visited other hill towns in Calabria and Puglia. The white stucco type finish is very pleasing and the enterior of the church is very soothing.

Beautiful understated interior and ceiling, a relief from the OTT baroque churches we'd recently visited.shame to see the water damage to the corner of the roof.
