There are many lovely thing written about Faaker See. But it is rather annoying that you have to rent a private house or pay the entrance fee at hotels just to see the lake or to swim in it. And you can't use your own SUP unless you are staying at a private place. In the summer obviously crowded.
The water is quite clear and warm enough for swimming. Or you can just enjoy the view.

It is the cleanest lake in Austria (so they clame) but to see its beauty you must stay at a hotel which has the lake view.

We went there for a swim.
Lake is magnificent, perfect turquoise water . Once you jump in your skin feels so clean. And the view with the mountain in the background is just amazing

It is a beautiful area there and the lake with its clear water is really beautiful, but if you travel there with a dog you have a problem.
Dogs are not allowed anywhere on the lake. So you have no chance of sitting by the lake in the evening and watching the sunset because it is simply forbidden with dogs. That is a real shame because it is really beautiful there. Unfortunately, this region is not an option for us again because we always travel with our dog.

This is a small lake south of Villach in a relatively flat area, not as scenic as other nearby. The water is blue and crystal clear. The major problem is that the entire lake had been cordoned out by commercial activities, hotel and camping and it is not accessible without a fee and there is no way to walk along the shores.

We stopped by the lake to enjoy the beautiful clear, warm water and were shocked to find out that there is not a single free access point to the lake. The entire area has been commercialized and you need to pay to access the lake. Parking is a disaster unless you are staying at the large camp ground. For us, the area was too commercialized and over-crowded.

Faakersee is the most southern small lake in Austria. We camped there on camping Anderwald which is absolutely fine. Specially the restaurant on the campsite is top. Good food at a bargain.

A lake filled with drinking water and surrounded by mountains. Everyone should visit but make sure your hotel has access to the lake!

WOW!! This would be one of if not THE most beautiful lake I have ever seen! It is bluer than blue, it almost looks like someone painted the Lake. With the lake in the foreground, then the Austrian Alps and the Dolomites in the very background, it makes the most stunning photo! Absolutely beautiful!
