We had a guide from Spion Kop Lodge, who not only gave us a detailed history of the events leading up to the battle, but also took us in his 4x4 to access the hill and battlefield, which s not easy to find, and not...More

A reminder of a tragic battle with many lives lost for little gain. Liverpools' "The Kop" comes from here.

no information given at entrance so all the numbered pointers on the ‘walk’ were meaningless as you had no idea of what happened where and when. the plaques at the monument gave some information but you really need an explanatory sheet to fully appreciate place.

The information sheet handed out at the entrance to this site was thorough yet concise. Signage at the start of the self guided tour gives a good summary of the battle and the walk around the site explains the actions in more detail. The "path"...More

This battle took place on top of the hill with great views over the surrounding country, which is why it was strategically important. A thick cable marks the trail round the site and there are good display boards which explain what happened during the course...More

On top of a hill with commanding views of the countryside, one of the reasons a battle took place here, and it makes you think of why. The background history and detail of the battle is well explained on the leaflet provided on entry. The...More

No you don't need a 4x4. We did it in a Ford Fiesta! The road gets very steep towards the top, but it's doable. Don't be daunted!
