Small but nice Castle Ruin
Jul 2018 • Family
Small (but steep) hike from the Niederburg (+- 15min). There is also a trail from the parking in Manderscheid which is less steep. Nice views from the ground floor and the tower. (Free Entrance)

Worth the walk

Nice ruins to visit (for free). You only need a quite short walk (15 minutes) to get there. The tower gets good maintenance. You can climb the tower, but it can be dark inside, so you might need a light. The tower gives you a nice view over Manderscheid and the surroundings! Definitely worth visiting!

Walk of the Day
Jul 2016 • Family
Historical castle and enjoyed the walk and surrounding country side. It started out early in the morning in July. The weather was wonderful, cool and sunny with a slight breeze. As my partner and family climbed up into the castle thought of earlier historical years ran through my head. Thinking of past battles that might have been fought and won due to the castle design and fortification. Level by level we climbed until we reached the top level and admired the view atop the castle. The window slots were just big enough to shoot your arrow down below to the oncoming enemies.

Great family outdoor fun
Jun 2015 • Family
This is a great way to spend a few hours of the day, especially with visitors. The parking area is free and easy to park in. The hike to Oberburg is about 10-15 mins from the parking area. It's the one with the least ruins but you can climb 118 stairs to the top of the remaining tower and get a breathtaking view of the ruins below. Then you can hike 15 mins down to the stream, cross the bridge and visit the more complete ruins. More about it on it's own review. Note there are no restrooms until you get down to the bottom ruin.
