The Flamingo route is totally 5,8 km. You can park the car near the "Zwillbrock Biologische Station" or by the hotel restaurant Klopendiek parking place. The route is easy to follow as there is enough information board. The first viewpoint hut is not far from the start point. There is also a visitor centre with a (defect) restroom. As the last 5 weeks has been so extremely warm and dry, there was almost no water but we're lucky that we've still had a chance to see small amount of flamingos, 8 full-grown and two young ones ( still in brown colour). This place is located on the border of the Netherlands ( Groenlo) with Germany. It worths visit. The area is not for wheelchairs.

We are taking our third walk along the Holland-Germany border, arranged by www.Easywalk.nl. We love these walks as it is flat, the beer is good, most people speak english here and the food is delicious. We usually go on to other parts of europe when we are finished. I cannot say enough nice things about easywalk. the accomodations are great, meals are terrific and trail is easy to follow. It's a perfect fit for us baby boomers. Try it, dial up Ton @ easywal;k.nl.

The venn in Zwillbrock is a large shallow lake which used to be used for peat cutting but is now a nature reserve. It hosts thousands of birds, mostly seaguls in the summer. There are also some rare species of ducks and other birds. Some decade ago flamingos came to the venn. Probable zoo escapees from Münster Zoo, they found a new home here and come back every summer. In the winter it is ideal territory for ice skating. An easy walk around the venn is well sign posted and takes about 45 minutes. It includes bird watching stations. The small baroque church in the village is worth seeing as well. It is right next to the parking facilities. The walk includes some 18th century border markers between the bishoprick of Münster and the Netherlands, as part of the walk is exactly along the border between Germany and the Netherlands.

free parking place and no admittance fee. Some 500 meters throught the woods to the Venn. Many birds, even flamingos' they say, which I did not spot in november. Telescope service available for 1 E. Next to the parking lot a nice barok church.
