Beautiful surprise! I ended up in Castelvetro on the Cammino dell'Unione and entered the La Vecchia Dispensa store. The girl was super kind and even though I was alone, she gave me a beautiful presentation and explanation on the history and production of vinegar with subsequent tasting of some of their best-selling products. It was truly a wonderful experience, interesting and enlightening. Not to mention the WORLD behind a bottle of balsamic vinegar. I really recommend coming in and tasting real balsamic vinegar! You won't be disappointed!! Thanks again for the wonderful experience 😊

I drove from Verona towards Tuscany and, on the way, I stopped in the commune of Maranello to visit the Ferrari Museum. I left the museum around lunch time without finding a reasonable restaurant nearby. It was then that I decided to discover the production of balsamic acetate in Modena, right next door.

I chose La Vecchia Dispensa acetaia and I didn't regret it. Firstly because the road there is simply beautiful. It was a pleasure to drive through Emilia-Romagna along such beautiful roads. The factory is in a village on top of a hill. There are two great neighboring restaurants, where you can eat well and drink wine.

The presentation of the balsamic oil is exquisite, the service is personalized. I brought two (photos) and I already regret not having brought more.

We were on our way from Milan to Bologna and spontaneously decided to stop by here. Although we have not booked a tour in advance, the operators took time and gave us a tour of their balsamic dispensary (10€ p.p. - we were 2 people). Afterwards we did a tasting (which was great!). The lady who did the tour was so sweet and friendly. It was very informative. The production of balsamic, from the grape to the finished product, was explained in an understandable but detailed way. The location - a medieval tower that used to be a prison - is impressive. If I could, I would love to give 10 stars!!!
(The balsamic is also world class and at fair prices!).

I recently visited the store to shop for a present for my father. The lady who I asked for suggestions about the gift was extremely kind, helpful and gave me an incredible experience through the vinegar testing. She also made it very easy for me to choose the perfect present for my father as her English was perfect and her product knowledge was brilliant. I cannot recommend this place enough and all members of staff are extremely kind and their product knowledge is brilliant. Thanks again for a great experience and for being a great help.

This is one of the best tours I have ever been on. The master balsamic vinegar maker gave us a guide around the premises, full of interest for his subject, information he passes on to visitors with ease. The process is fascinating, especially if you have ever seen how wine is made (totally different), and the tasting opens your senses up to the subtle differences between the vinegars.

Seriously great tour, and well worth the trip out from Modena.

We had already visited the store here several times. Recently we took the tour to see how balsamic vinegar is made. The ‘master’ himself was the tour guide and spoke to us in English with a passion that was almost infectious. We were taken into where the magic happens and at the end we were invited to take part in an extensive tasting session. This business caters for tourists by offering smaller items to purchase from the store too. I can’t praise this place enough. The fee to take the tour was surprisingly low. Bonus! Beautiful website in both Italian and English.

We booked a tasting tour last minute 1.5 days beforehand. I had contacted every Balsamic vinegar producer on the first 2 pages of Google, and this company was the only one that responded and gave us a tour.

Ortensia was an amazing guide. It was only the 3 of us (and my parents can't speak English well) but she was super patient, explained everything in great detail, and waited to give me time to translate.

The tour was also very authentic - Ortensia was clearly super proud of her vinegar, and explained each detail while we stood in a 16th century tower among real batteries of balsamic vinegar.

We finished with a tasting of vinegars, from the non-traditional to traditional ones, going up to 100 years aged. We never knew how good authentic Balsamic vinegar is, but now we know. We were super happy with the guide and bought a few bottles to bring back home.

I'm a Ferrari fan, so next time I come to Modena, this place is on my must-visit list.

Fantastic tour with chocolate/balsamic paired tasting. The tour guide was excellent! We came straight from the Ferrari museum which was only 15 minutes away by car. We learned a lot and enjoyed the tasting. Was a terrific day trip from Florence. Highly recommend!
