I was on my way to the Rolduc abbey, when I passed by this castle in the center of Herzogenrath. From the information panels I learned that the castle and abbey belonged together until a border was drawn between them after Napoleon was defeated. The castle dominates the area. I believe there is a museum inside, but it was closed now, because they were about to have some event. I guess I would have rated higher if I had seen the museum.

The castle used to be on the Dutch-German trade route. It was always ruled by bishops. The castle is very historic and witnessed many historic events. A nice view of the town is also offered. It is the main landmark to see in Herzogengrath.
