Experience the Middle Ages with 1,111 steps around the Old Town Hall.

We start at the legendary Horkenstein and follow the course of the medieval city wall before we take a closer look at the most famous sights of the romantic old town with the customs house, the iron house, the old town hall and the St. Georg church. Finally, we visit - if requested - outside of the regular opening times, perhaps the most beautiful, but certainly the most famous, half-timbered house in the old town of Hattingen: the iron house with the museum of the local club Hattingen / Ruhr.

When our city tour ends at the Horkenstein again, you will have learned about early petrifications, medieval toilets, inner city fountains and urban redevelopment plans. In the museum in the iron house from 1611, house fountains, creaking oak floorboards, low doors and small sash windows promise pure timber framing joy!

A Sunday Morning 40km Mountainbike Trip into the "Bermuda Triangle" sparsely populated between Wuppertal, Essen and Bochum is once again turning an experience! My friend Stefan "Mr. Motivator" and mate Oli invited me on this drizzly 13C morning to tagg along on their 40km round trip, 650m steep ascents and 2h30... How could I refuse?! Much to our surprise the trip up to the promised "Biergarten" only took us an hour. Scrambled eggs on "speck" dices of bacon and an essential "Frühschoppen" Pils where readily waiting. 4 donkeys are roaming free there and they make just about everyone smile, so cute and loveable. I will be back soon, by car then and accompanied by my kids. This very popular "Biergarten" is a must for hikers and bikers, due to the beatiful forrest and floating mountains with beatiful views. I am delighted that after 4 years living in this vastly underestimated "Bergische Land" I still see new things and very family fun attractions. Thanks again to my friends Stefan and Oli... who patiently waited for me on top of each ascent... !
