Capo Zafferano offers stunning views over the gulf of Palermo.
Impressive Mediterranean vegetation (pines, cacti, various flowers), green lizards sunbathing on the rocks and wild coves are the pattern of the place. In October, the cacti called "fico d'India" by locals are covered in ripe red or yellow fruits, so if you like cactus fruits and travel in October, pack a knife or a spoon, so you can taste some cactus fruits. They are juicy and delicious. Don t try to handle them with bare hands, they are covered in tiny thorns.
The Capo Zafferano lighthouse is renovated and stands against strong winds in a wild scenery.
Unfortunately, the buildings around the lighthouse, probably used long time ago by the lighthouse crew, are neglected and covered in graffiti. They are actually decayed ruins, about to collapse.
The saddest thing about this trip was not the condition of the lighthouse annexes but the garbage left literally everywhere on the way.
The contrast between the majestic nature and the piles of litter is so disturbing.

Visited today. Parked up on the main road and walked down to the start of the path / narrow road round to the lighthouse. The capo is impressive and there a few places to go down steps to the sea for a dip.

What an extraordinary place this is. Breathtaking views from the capo zafferano onto Porticello and Trabia. A place to revisit. Quiet, away from the tourists, multiple terraces via one can choose to sit yes or no in the sun. Ideally situated rooms that make it possible to create some wind through the house so that it is cooled off at the end of a sunny day. Lunch or dinner at Porticello, 10 minutes drive away at the coast. Splendid!

Not easyto find. You need to slide down a stteep hill against warnings of no throughfare to get there. But once that done it was fine. In season it is probably crowded but equipped with showers, changing cabins and - probably - opportunities for a snack. Beach not strkingly clean - but I have seen much worse.

We walked around Cape Zafferano all the way to the lighthouse, il faro. It looks like there once was a caretaker for the lighthouse, now there are only ruined buildings, but it is a great place to look out into the sea in a quiet place, or look onto the coast, it is all so beautiful.
