Most of the time is closed. If anybody wants to visit, should call the Jewish Community of Thessaloniki and ask for the key or the days is open. The Jewish quarter though is very interesting.

We went to Varia and looked for the Jewish quarter - Barbouta and found the most ancient synagogue in Northern Greece and one of the oldest in all of Europe. The inside has wood carved ceilings and beautiful mosaic tiles.

We found it quite difficult to find without help from locals. Only one sign to the Jewish Quarter perhaps 150 m away. The whole area though is very worth finding being quaint buildings in a quiet area of Veroia.

It was closed when we went but you can take a cool picture thru the keyhole. Very nice lady was near by neighborhood but didn't speak English so we couldn't communicate.

One of the very few Jewish Synagogues in Greece. Best for a relaxing walk. Surely the place to be when in Veria.

The beautiful 1840 synagogue is a quiet but insistent reminder of the total destruction by the Nazis of an ancient and thriving Jewish community in Veria. The building is supported by the Jewish community of Thessaloniki - also a remnant of a population that, pre...More

We didn't. The picture I took of thru the keyhole. We hear there is a way to get in but we weren't able to make those plans.
