This was close to our hotel so we walked here to see it. We didn't go into the cave directly as it was a steep decline plus walking on stones in the water to get there. We were able to view most of it from afar. It is a beautiful cave with pictograms, paintings on rocks. The paint is made from mineral pigments found on the island. The paintings depict the Manuatara Bird. The arrival of this bird in spring would start the Tangata Manu competition.

This cave is a very short walk from the car park. No need to take jackets or torches here. It is a beautiful collection of cave paintings, in an exposed, open crevice facing off into the Pacific Ocean. Certainly worth considering.

Great views all around and a nice spot to watch the sunset.
Walk down the steps to the cave you can't go in like the other caves.
But dramatic coast with crashing surf and jagged rock formations!

After we saw three, four moai site, we felt bore.
Seeing something difference is nice.
This is one of the most accessible caves on the island according to our guide. Its on the seafront and very close to the town, it has some cave paintings and the legends that surround it and even a Hollywood movie took a scene here, if you want to visit here, you can please ma je sure you weaf a short shoes as the road is narrow and maybe slippery.

Only a few minutes from the main town, Ana Kai Tangata known by the locals as "the cannibal cave" has an interesting story: this from an article I read online: In 1914, when Katherine Routledge visited these caves for the first time, she found many birds drawn and even one that overlapped with a picture of what appeared to be a European ship, demonstrating that these paintings are quite recent.
Definitely worth a stop.

I didn't heard much about Ana Kai Tangata before going to Rapa Nui Island, and I think that's such an underrated place! The landscape is absolutely amazing, and the sunset there is a definitely must see (we were looking for other sunsets than Ahu Tahai one, as we've been there more than three times in a row). Unfortunetly, we couldn't enter the cave because it seemed interdited at that day, but seeing the sea beat so hard at the rocks, along with such a beautiful sunset, made the place one of my favourite ones in Rapa Nui! Really remarkable.

You go down with a few rock stairs to come next to the water and enjoy just a small cavity being an end of lava tubes

If you do the walk to Orongo from Hanga Roa town centre, the Ana Kai Tangata cave is one of the first points of interest you pass as you leave town. It is directly after you pass the Hotel Iorana, across a field and down some steep steps. The crashing waves are mesmerising. On the roof of the cave are paintings of frigate birds. The cave was used as a refuge during periods of unrest of the island due to its hidden location.

Nice cave paintings in this ceremonial cave. It is easy to visit on your own without a tour. The stairs are a bit steep if you are unfit.

You'll want to go to see the cave art of the early people of Rapa Nui. The climb is not difficult and once in the cave you can take in the beautiful view of the water and the crashing waves.
