Our agency in London (Travel The Unknown) booked us two private tours with Maururu Travel - a half-day to Ahu Akivi and the topknot quarry and a full day including Vaihu, village reconstruction, Rano Raraku quarry, 15 Moai of Tongariki and Anakea beach. Martin is a knowledgeable and warm-hearted guide. He is from Rapa Nui and his mother is an archelogist on the Island so he was able to inform us about every aspect of the culture. We learnt a huge amount and left feeling we had received the best understanding we could of this unique paradise. Thank you Martin.

First off the guides were all friendly and the sites amazing. However, I was harrassed and threatened by a man on the first tour day. I told the guide and the office. I asked if I could upgrade to a private tour and pay the difference because I was afraid to see that man again. Both didn't care and wasn't willing to help me. The office told me all private tours were full, my choices were dont go on the tours I've already paid for or I have to just deal with the guy and get on the same bus with him. I was scared and had to be with him on 2 more tours. This situation was not okay. The other problem is the timeframes be aware that the first 30-45mins of the tour is just picking people up at different hotels. Sadly, they dont give you an exact time so you just have to wait in the hotel lobby for those 45mins waiting for them to come get you. For the last day I was told the company would pick me up at 9:15am to take me to the airport, when I confirmed I was told 9am. I was in the hotel lobby at 9am but the driver didn't show up till 9:45am. That was a 45min wait! Another couple at my hotel was told 9:30am. Due to all the different times I feel the company is very disorganized.

We booked this tour after we arrived - they had a table outside their agency for bookings. We did the full day tour with our guide Martin who was excellent, he provided a lot of information and spoke great English. We spent a lot of time in each place and got lots of time to take photos and ask questions. The quarry was my favorite! We decided to bring our own lunch instead of paying for it which was a great choice because while others were served in a random location they brought us to Anakena beach early (which actually had restaurants as well if you hadn't brought your own) so we got to spent like 2 hours there. Only downside is the pick up in the morning ran very late but they apologized.

As everyone knows, when you’re on vacation, your primarily goals are to relax and also explore the local scenery and culture. Sometimes, those goals can conflict with options such as Sunrise tour at Tongariki and in this case, I chose exploration over relaxation. At least that’s what I thought when I chose the sunrise tour with Maururu.... They told me pickup at the hotel is at 6 so there I waited... 10min passed... another 10....another 10... way past the 6:15am cut off they told me but nevertheless, I didn’t give up hope. (This must be what all the stray dogs feel like every moment, every day, waiting for some kind person to adopt them) Surely, the tour people wouldn’t let me down. And so I waited and waited till 6:51am. By this point, I’m certain Maururu has ditched me.... and I left the waiting area defeated.... Don’t bother with this tour agency if you want to enjoy your vacation and get what you paid for.

Hello good day! Dear 840jeanniel! We apologize for what happened, for not having done our job of having taken her to the sunrise. We know that when traveling one expects the best so that everything goes well. To be able to imitate the error a bit, we are going to ask for some data and thus be able to gather information and do something about it. * Sunrise day: * Male or female driver: * Your name on the sunrise reserve: We are looking forward to your comments.
