Our two local guides, Roberto and Emilia first joined us at the airport to ferry us to our hotel. They escorted us for the next two days and were a great team providing us with exceptional information concerning the history and archaeological sites around Rapa Nui. The friendly and safe drivers transported us in two vans which were very comfortable.
At each place we visited, Roberto and or Emilia would first provide us with an overview of what we would experience then continue to provide information as we toured. The pace of the touring at each location was good with enough time to soak in each site.
The lunch they provided for the group back at their headquarters in Hanga Ru on day two was very satisfying.

We had this tour company for three days on Easter Island. They picked us up at the airport, dropped us off at our hotel and provided three days of packed-filled sights throughout Easter Island. The guides were very knowledgeable, friendly, on-time, courteous, etc. I can't say enough good things about this company! Of course, you could rent a car and do it by yourselves but without their guidance and knowledge, one could not grasp the significance or history behind the area. They gave great restaurant and shopping recommendations also. Three full days of touring is the minimum amount of time to spend on Easter Island.

My accommodation recommended Mahinatur for tours. I did a morning Horseride to the highest point on Rapa Nui. The guide (young man) spoke broken english, I spoke broken spanish, we both spoke broken Ma'ohi (RapaNui) so we were able to communicate. Views were AMAZING. Just some advise: take water/snacks, it does get hot, sunscreen is great, saddles are english-style. Also, if youre from the US, to stop, "SHHHHH!" = WOAH! To go, make a kissing noise instead of a clicking noise. I will do this again on my next visit

Booked the "Arrival of Hotu Matu'A" full-day tour on their website, 40,000 pesos including lunch. The day before the tour, I found out that Haka Pei competition is on despite the official Tapati FB page announced that this event is cancelled. I whatsapp'd quite late a night to see whether it's possible to change the date for the tour, got a reply from Oscar and he helped reschedule this, top marks for customer service.
I went to their office the morning of the tour, we waited for over 30 mins, all the tour vans of other companies came and left. The guide did apologise when she arrived and asked to check our National Park tickets, I showed the guide my QR code ticket, she had clearly never seen such and kept insisting that I needed a physical paper one, I let her know that I had already entered sites with this QR code without any problem but she wouldn't believe it, took me to the ticket office close to their office and asked the staff who confirmed it is good to go. Although I appreciate that she rather be on the safe side and wanted to ensure I could get into sites, it made things awkward for me and I find it a bit appalling that as a guide, she did not know about QR code ticket. This is a first sign she's probably new and inexperienced.
About the tour, there were about 15 of us in the group. I took this tour mainly hoping to learn more about the history and other interesting things about moai. Unfortunately it was a let down in this regard. I didn't enjoy the tour, whilst the guide is friendly, her English was not up to ar and the way she presented information was pretty boring, others seemed to have a better experience maybe it was with a different guide or because they speak Spanish?
There was a little free time at Ahu Tongariki and Anakena Beach, almost none at Rano Raraku which is not ideal if this is the only chance you get to go. I was ok with no free time there as I spent a whole afternoon on my own on another day. The van and lunch are alright, not sure why they specify the meal being vegetarian on the website but in reality we had chicken as main.
In summary, I can't say I had a enjoyable tour and can't really recommend them.

Our morning tour was excellent...air conditioned bus, competent driver, tour guide who gave the highlights of the archeological sites in both English and Spanish. The afternoon trip we had the same guide but a different vehicle. From the minute we boarded the bus the first problem was no air conditioning. The second problem was that we couldn’t get the windows open. By the first stop we were just roasting! It was then that we became aware that the driver had to run around to the outside of the bus to slide open the door. Not just a courtesy, it didn’t function well from the inside. While we were at the first stop the driver thankfully managed to get a couple of windows open so travel became bearable. But with so much wind, we couldn’t hear if the guide had something to say to the group. Unacceptable for a professional tour company. We spoke to the woman at the desk upon our return about the problem because we are booked tomorrow for a full day tour...

I'd booked this company through a third party the airport pick.up was fine. There was a long queue at the airport for National Park tickets. I asked if I needed to get one then as I was going on a full day tour the following day I was told by the young woman that it was fine I could get one tomorrow. The following day I had to call the company as they failed to pick me up. They'd got the wrong hotel, despite dropping me off the previous day!. On arriving at the first site I was unable to get a ticket as advised the previous day. The guide a moody person told me tough. I couldn't get in any site. She wasn't prepared to do anything about it. She later admitted she should have asked me when I got on the bus whether I'd got entry ticket. Fortunately, the bus driver was helpful and he sorted out entry to the site and got me a ticket to pick up at the second site. BUT their initial advice was wrong and nearly screwed my holiday up. The guide was brusque throughout. I wanted to see another site so despite my bad experience booked a half day trip the following day. The person at the office was likewise not over bothered about helping or being polite to customers. The half day trip really wasn't good value. The trip was advertised as 3 hours yet we were back in 2 hours. The guide really wasn't bothered. My view of this company is that they can make money easily from tourists and really are not too bothered about the service they provide

We took part in two half-day trips and one whole day trip in December 2023. Our guides Luis and Emilia were very knowledgeable and never tired of answering questions in English and Spanish. The trips were carefully planned to show us the most interesting sites on the island and talk us through the geology, archaeology and history of the island and its people. We traveled in a van with a small group of tourists. Everything was well organized and on time.

I could not go on 4 tours I had booked with mahinatur this november due to covid and travel restrictions. I have emailed them several times but they do not reply. I would accept a voucher instead of a refund but no reply at all. Very very poor customer service. Don't use them!!!

All-day tour of Rana Roku, Ahu Tongariki and Anakena beach with lunch (CLP35000, does not include National Park ticket, I paid with cash) on Easter Sunday 2017.
I don’t normally do guided tours, but since I don’t drive, it was either this or risk life, limb and muscles on a mountain bike. In hindsight, I definitely made the right choice. I asked my hotel to book an all-day tour, and Mahinatur seemed to be the only one to have Sunday tours. Pick-up from the hotel was at 09:30 (they were a little late, as they picked up people from different hotels across town). The guide was Hanga Rao (as he explained it – like the name of the town, but with a slightly different ending), and Raul was the driver. All commentary was in Spanish and English.
Hanga Rao’s knowledge of the island and its people was impressive, and it was apparent that he was genuinely passionate about them and his job. He made an effort to interact with everyone on the tour, and to keep us entertained.
The tour was well paced, and we had plenty of time to spend at Rana Roku, Ahu Tongariki and Anakena beach. The tour group is brought back into Hanga Roa for lunch after the first two stops – they could probably cover another point between Ahu Tongariki and Anakena if they didn’t come back into town, but that’s just a minor observation. We also had just over an hour at the beach, although only a few people chose to go into the water.
I hadn’t realised lunch was included, and it turned out to be pretty filling – chicken noodle soup (from powdered soup, I think), plated salad (tomato and cucumbers), plain rice with a piece of grilled spiced chicken (it was a big piece; I’m not sure whether seconds were allowed), and a local banana.
Overall, I would definitely recommend Mahinatur’s all-day tour - it was very informative, fun, well-paced, and good value for money. Hanga Rao was a great tour guide, and you should try and get him for your tour.

Hi, SidMehlwal, we are deeply thankful for your thorough review of your full-day excursion with our operator. We are really glad to read that you feel you made a good decision about going on a guided tour. Easter Island is a small place but it is full of hidden spots, details and history that may go unnoticed if you plan to go around by yourself.
We'll let Hanga Rau know you wrote about your experience and recommendation; he'll feel proud of himself since he is one of the youngest guides in our company.
Thanks a lot again for your review, rating and recommendations, iorana!
