I usually do not have high expectations for these tourist-inspired cultural events. The meal in an adjoining room gave us 4 choices but was served so slow that we were almost late to the show and it wasn’t very good. The dinner and service gets 2 stars.
But the show was a pleasant surprise and rates a 5. The Ballet Kari Kari is a very energetic, talented and enjoyable dance troupe that taught us about the historical legends and myths of Rapa Nui with dance. Of course, members of the audience were brought on stage to be more than spectators.
I would say skip the dinner and enjoy the show.

Initially planned to go to see traditional dancing but learned about the efforts to preserve the cultural history and engage the next generations in the community traditions. Chose to do dinner/show combination and the dinner was fantastic. I had fish with mango sauce and my friend had tuna which was also great. Drink and desert were also included. The show was very entertaining, dancers were very good and engaged audience. Would recommend for dinner and show. Dinner started at 7p.

This was a very professional production of cultural dance and music that was very enjoyable and which clearly has a lot of thought and planning behind it. The dancers give it their all and are dedicated to their performances, and the music is beautiful. This isn't some hokey, jaded tourist trap but rather dedicated artists who are clearly enthusiastic about their culture and history (rightfully so) and do a great job sharing it with visitors to the island. The show as an hour long which was just about right for me. The dance and music stand alone well-enough but I would agree with one of the other reviewers here that maybe a short explanation of a dance segment here and there, and maybe a keep word or two to listen, to would have been interesting. This was done for one spotlight performance and was well-done without detracting from the flow of the performance.

yes, it maybe a bit touristic, but with the short introduction about the Kari Kari and what they do to preserve the traditions I saw it from a different perspective. You can choose to have only the show, or the option with first dinner or the dinner afterwards. Despite other reviews I liked the dinner. Still, it is too expensive as everything on the island.

The show was professional and entertaining. Although warned in advance, we made the mistake of having dinner before the show. Only one of us had 2 of the 3 courses. The other only was given the soup course. To their credit after protesting, she was given a partial refund. Hope they get the service kinks worked out

When I researched the show prior to our trip, I found it difficult to find all the information I needed so I'm hoping this review will help other travelers plan their trip:-)
The show venue is located just off the main street in Hanga Roa, Atamu Tekena.
There is a poster on a main road, just by the entrance to the lane you need to take to get to the venue. The show takes place every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 21:00. The tickets office officially opens at 19:00 but we arrived there at 18:30 and we were able to purchase our tickets for the night (we went in April which is the end of high season, if you are coming between December and March, book in advance as we were told, the show gets booked out quickly). The show cost 15,000 Chilean pesos per person.
You can reserve the seats at the time of purchasing the tickets i.e. they ask you to write your name down and put it on the seats you want.
To be honest, it's not a huge venue so the view is great from wherever you are.
On the show itself, it's a great entertainment night for a reasonable price.
It lasts around 50 mins. The group dressed in Polynesian costumes performs island dances and legends. It's a shame there is no intro to each dance as it would helf understand the history of each dance a little bit better.
Go and enjoy yourself!

I attended a performance of the Kari Kari dance troupe during my trip to Easter Island in February 2019. I enjoyed the dancing very much and as far as I know it seemed authentic. I cannot speak to the food as I only saw the dance performance, but I found the evening particularly entertaining and worth the money. While I had a good seat, I wanted to give a warning to visitors that you have to get to the theater early. While you can reserve your ticket ahead of time, seating is on a first come, first serve basis. There is a column down the middle of the theater that prevents some seats from seeing the stage fully. Those who paid to eat dinner get seats in the front of the theater, and those who pay for the performance alone or in stadium seats in the back of the theater. In my opinion, the better seats are found in the stadium seating, but you have to get there early in order to be centrally placed and away from the obstructing column. Also, the theater gets packed to the gills. If you are claustrophobic, then this is not a performance for you. I was actually feeling ill by the end of the performance because there were so many people packed into the theater. In addition, my knees were killing me at the end of the hour. I enjoyed the dancing, but wanted to give that warning.

Entry costs 15,000 Pesos/person. I overheard that there’s an additional fee for the front row.
The show is spectacular and lasts one hour. It is genuine and no too kitschy, although a little more explanation would have been helpful.
There are two types of seating: 5 rows of plastic chairs at the front and a grandstand at the back.
The chair at the front have burlap chair-covers and were very itchy and uncomfortable; constantly felt like I had bugs crawling up my legs.
There is a bar, but service was horrible:
1) The bartender handled our money, then started putting ice and fruit into our glasses with her unwashed hands. When we objected, she rolled her eyes, wiped her hands on a rag and continued making our drinks.
2) We asked her to re-start our drinks with clean hands and suggested that buying bar spoons or ice-tongs could be useful.
3) She got upset because a line was forming behind us, but agreed to restart our drinks. She stopped midway to serve the person behind us, handled their money and went back to making our drinks with unwashed hands.
4) A this point we had been waiting for 10 minutes, so we canceled our orders and took our seats.
I don’t want to take away from the dancing/dancers, it was amazing. However, avoid the bartender if you value your health.

My wife was the one pushing to see this, so of course we did (like I had a choice). As it turns out, this was very entertaining and nice way to mix it up one evening. The dancers must have read some of these reviews, because they did take the time to explain a few of the dances and songs (in 4 different languages mind you).
My wife and I both ended up on stage b/c they seek audience members to join in as the show progresses.
My only disappointment was they didn't have any beer. That is the only way I would improve on this experience.

I booked in advance 2 tickets 4 days before. Once we arrived was a nasty old man and his wife, and 11 more in our seats. They refused to move that man, and show no intention to solve the issue. Finally they refund the money after 15 minutes. We couldn't see the show,

I reserved online, then went to the theater The day before the show, during their opening hours - I happened to be walking past and it’s on the Main street in town- and she found my name on the list already. She said I needed to pay on the day of show only, and I would receommend doing the same thing- make sure you’re on the list, especially if (like in late July and August) one of the other groups is out of town on tour- meaning tickets were even more popular than normal. Enjoy!
