We have been here before and it was very difficult due to not much English. However, this time We got there as it opened and we had a tour (just our group) and our guide spoke in English and his love of the place just came through in his talking. It was absolutely incredible. To think that this pumping station... More

This is a fun place to visit, but beware for those of us not Dutch speaking, get a bit lost. But even though it was in Dutch, it is very interesting. Some of the pumps were just incredible.

We have been here on several eoccassions. We love to take our friends here for a visit. It is a World Heitage and every time we visit, there is something new to admire. the explanation by the volunteer-guides is excellent and there are some tours in english abnd German. The Building is also in the Amsterdam architectural style

I am sure this is a very interesting place to visit but our guide only gave the tour in dutch - with only a brief description in German for a few other guests. We were handed a laminated A4 sheet with some info in English but it felt like we very much missed out on lots of interesting explanation.

This is a world class world heritage site. It is like a working museum, having been built nearly 100 years ago. But our guide who was fabulous kept reminding me that it was not a museum as it still is the pump of last resort for Friesland. The pump house is wonderful to see and the exhibition and film and... This is an impressive working monument highlighting the centuries-long Dutch struggle against the flooding. It is not well set up for non-Dutch speakers, though. There is a 4-minute intro movie with English subtitles that runs too quick to make sense of; then, there is a 12-minute dramatization of the need to start the station up, also with English subtitles, mildly... It's the guided tour that makes the difference. Visiting this enormous pumping station is worthwhile when you tahe the guided tour with one of the enthousiastic volunteers. It.s a cathedral of steam and water and shows the continuing battle of the dutch against the water. Unesco heritage and justified as such !

Very well set up visitors' center with a nice movie as introduction. Our guide di. dan excellent job explaining everything in english and dutch. Especially for the men in our group this was an interesting tour, but it is always good to know how they manage the water.
