This was a great day out for our family, From buying the tickets the staff were chatty and informative. Between us we had a wheelchair user and 2 prams- we didn't have to ask for help we were approached as soon as we were on the platform by a young lad (? Work experience) who offered us assistance, showed us... More

We started our round trip at Bolton Abbey Station. Plenty of room to park and time to admire the staion and afacilities before our trip. A very nice cafeteria and a chance to filll up on hot drinks and sandwiches after an energetic morning walk to The Strid. The train was comfortable and roomy. Had a quick look round at... More

Big carpark , frequent trains and really tasty homemade cakes, what not to like,! The first class carriages are wonderful with some ornate carving in mahogany , unusual chair arrangement in these all adds to the quirkiness , we spent a lively afternoon back and forth

Little wonder that Michael Portillo spoke so highly of this place in 'The Great Railway Journeys' series. Lovely stations, well kept carriages and children are allowed to go into the drivers compartment. The 12th century Bolton Priory is only a short walk away too. Highly recommend.

Really sweet railway, lovely locomotives and platforms. We paid extra for first class seats and to be honest, the second class compartments looked nicer and were private - the views were good though. Gift shops and cafe available. I felt the carriages could be cleaner - needed a hoover and dust but appreciate it is run by volunteers. We took... More

We took the children on their first steam train ride here and they loved it! We had planned to stop at Embsay for lunch but were advised there isn't much around the station area. So we ended up jumping straight back on the train back to Bolton Abbey and having some little snacks on the train. Fantastic to be a... More

Lovely little steam and diesel railway. Only a short track (but travel is quite cheap) but both Embsay and Bolton Abbey Stations are very nostalgic and for those old enough take us back to a past time. Staff are very friendly and a lot of work is going on at Bolton Abbey station to upgrade facilities.

This was a really great evening despite the fact the rain was torrential at times!! We travelled from Embsay to Bolton Castle in a 6 wheel vintage carriage which was great fun. We had a quiz to do as the weather was too bad to wander around. At Bolton Castle we were greeted at the station and given strawberries and... More
