Twycross Zoo is renowned as a specialist primate zoo and has a wide variety of monkeys and apes including the UK's only group of bonobos. We have breeding groups of many endangered primate species so we often have babies and toddlers playing around in our orang utan and bonobo groups, and in many of our monkey groups. Set in more than 80-acres, we have around 900 animals of more than 160 species to see, including many native species in the Zoo's Nature Reserve. You can walk with our ring-tailed lemurs in their new walk-through enclosure; see our giant tortoises sunbathing in their new grass area and watch our penguins take their daily walk. Our keepers present regular talks and feeds where you can learn a bit more about some of our animals such as the chimpanzees, penguins and meerkats. Twycross Zoo's award winning Education Department offers a variety of discovery opportunities for many different types of groups and parties. The Zoo holds the Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge, all sessions are curriculum linked and all are designed to best engage all age groups.

We spent a day at Twycross and felt it was a good sized zoo for a one day visit but we still didn't see all there was on offer. The big draw are the ape families and we thought the new enclosure was very dynamic and adventurous and offered a really good opportunity to see the animals up close. I... More

Visited today for first time, cost £52 for family of 3. There is a good array of animals but viewing to most enclosures is through small glass panels, which on a busy day meant waiting around to "take your turn" to see animals, you then felt obliged to move to let someone else have a turn. Many animals could not... More

Was really looking forward to taking my wife here but was left pretty deflated. A bit of overkill with so many different species of monkeys. A zoo never feels the same without tigers, lions, bears and reptiles. It's a bit pricey but an ok day out. The food like all tourist attractions is extortionate so please bring a picnic.

Some areas are better and have been upgraded but some are in need of improvement. Lots and lots of various monkeys so great if you like monkeys though lacking on variety of other animals. 3 or 4 hours is all you need to look round. New soft play indoor area is nice though you have to pay extra.

Well what can I say about Twycross zoo that's good probably the way out. For the money very disappointed I get that animals do their own thing and will appear when they want and will entertain or just sit there, but a lot of the cages were over grown grass in the bottom with dead plants inside and outside cages,... We visited the zoo on a Saturday afternoon, dry sunny weather yes the sun was out but hardly any animals were on view, very disappointing. I know there are times for cleaning, feeding or maintenance but surely not all at the same time, after about a couple of hours we decided to leave. Would I recommend this zoo..... no Will... More

In comparison to other animal parks I have visited (Chester Zoo, Edinburgh Zoo, Knowsley Safari Park etc) the enclosures are sometimes small and lacking in enrichment. The pathways need work we encountered lots of potholes. The elephant and giraffe areas need the people flow sorting (designated in and out perhaps) as it tends to bottle neck and cause congestion. There... More

Spent a few hours here with the expectation of a lovely zoo as it has been advertised as being one. On arrival it seemed it was just a plot of land where animals have been randomly placed with poor surroundings and enclosures for the animals. Was surprised to see especially the elephants enclosure being so small, with hardly any water... More

I went to Twycross Zoo with my family and it was terrible, because there was empty enclosures and most of the animals were unhappy and they looked depressed, especially the Orugatans and the Gorillas because they weren't doing anything and just sitting there and looked really unhappy which you would of thought that they would of been outside and enjoying...
