My wife and I went to Bari to pay our respect to her second cousin killed on a bombing run over Northern Italy on the 15th of August 1944. He and his 5 crew mates are buried here, some of them side by side. Something his mother always wanted to do.Very emotional visit for my wife. The cemetery is very well maintained, two workers were actually there that morning doing some trimmings.

The reason for our trip to Bari was to visit the grave of an uncle who died in WWII when his plane crashed. It was a profound moment to see his resting place after 75 years.

Visited here on Wed 26 Sept 2018. My uncle Edward James Bailey RAF is buried here. He died in the 2nd WW. My Nan and Grandad visited his grave after the war was over, then my mum brought my Nan, then 80 30 years ago and now I have visited. It was a very moving experience. I came partly for my mum 96 now for her to pay her last respects, over the phone and for myself. I'm glad I did. The cemetery is beautifully kept and is very tranquil. I couldn't see if there was a toilet nearby. I brought some water in case I needed it. We had a taxi from the Rive del Sole Gianvannazo it cost 100 euro. If we are able to come again I would stay in Bari. The cemetery is on the outskirts of Bari. A fact readers may like to know is that my Uncle Eddy was named after his uncle Edward James Bailey who died in the 1st WE and is buried in Yipres. He has a bus named after him by Newport City Council. I am very proud of these two young men who died serving their county. JEAN

As all War Cemeteries of the Commonwealth beautifully planned and maintained with flowering plants and lawn. This adds to the impact of the white marble slabs inscribed with the names and ages and regiments of the individual solders buried there. As one says, they sacrificed their future for ours. Especially young people ought to stop and think before giving way to violence.
