We had visited other churches on the main Bohol island, but this one is situated on the smaller Panglao island. Well worth a visit if you've a half-day to spare. It's not far from the resorts on Alona beach. Beautiful murals on the ceiling. Don't forget to look up while inside. Architecturally interesting if you, like me, like churches.

The grounds and town are very tranquil and not far from the water, where catamarans gather to take people out on trips. There's a watch tower on the grounds too, although we couldn't enter it. I had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with the Parish Priest who was delighted to hear we were Irish. Please try to leave a donation.

The Panglao Church is a Roman Catholic Church of the Diocese of Tagbilaran. It is located in Panglao Island. Consecrated in 1924, the Panglao Church has a neoclassical architecture and is dedicated to St. Augustine of Hippo, whose image is enthroned in the central altar. The Panglao Church Complex has been declared as Important Cultural Properties by the National Museum of the Philippines in 2011.

The most spectacular feature of the church is its ceiling murals. The ceiling above the nave of the church depicts the seven sacraments. The ceiling beneath the hexagonal dome has a mural of the Holy Trinity surrounded by angels. Above the main altar is the mural of the Last Supper. At the ceiling at right transept is the mural of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, St. Therese, and what looks like an exorcism. At the ceiling at left transept is the mural of two saints (St. John Bosco, and St. Joseph, perhaps?) and what looks like a soul leaving the body.

When I visited the Panglao Church, I was able to climb the choir loft. Above the choir loft is a mural of St. Cecilia, patroness of musicians.

The Church is accessible by public transport; jeeps and buses with the Tagbilaran-Panglao route pass by the church. If you are going on a Panglao land tour, you can ask your tour provider to include this site in the itinerary.

It was a beautiful church and yes, I went inside to kneel and pray because I was very thankful to be there and amongst new friends.

Catholic church. The church and surroundings looks old and somehow deserted, but picturesque and beautiful. The church is operational, and open for prayers. Here you can see catholic wedding ceremonies.

We took time out from the main stream things to do, and went to have a look. We are so glad we did ,the church is getting a new lease of life. it will look a picture when it's completed.

I attended a Sunday service here and despite the service was in Cebuano, the locals did not fail to make me feel comfortable.

Visited this church as part of a land tour organised with one of the operators on alona beach.

The guide dropped us here on our way back from chocolate hills. The church was undergoing renovation and parts were closed off. The architecture and murals on the ceiling are quite beautiful. The main altar was stunning. Has a very spiritual air about it. just walking through the church made me wonder how the monks in their time lived and prayed here.

The Church is beautiful and has great history around it. When we went it was undergoing refurbishment and/renovations which meant that the congregation area was blocked off. Despite this the altar area was very nice and ornate. Our guide explained a lot about the origins of the materials that make up the church which was rather interesting.

The old church is beautiful with paintings on the ceilings. Several bells are displayed in front of the church. There is one morning mass and one 5:00 PM mass on Sundays. The church gets really full with people, so go very early. The high priest was relevant and connected with the parishioners.

This Church is literally beside the Panglao Watch Tower which is usually included in the Panglao Island Tour.

No entrance fees but donations are accepted.

The watchtower is closed when we went there (not sure if it even opens for public viewing).
