My husband and I went on a Fabulous Mediterranean cruise last month that went to 7 different ports in Greece, Croatia, Montegro, and Italy. I worked hard to find tours in each port that would give us the feel of that place in the short time allotted in each. I was So Grateful when I found The Travel Insiders who arranged a Wonderful private tour of our time in Katakolon and Olympia.
Despina Aggeli, who owns the business with her sister Elena, answered all my questions promptly, cheerfully, and expertly by email before booking, arranged the Perfect Day for us, and was there in person when we got off the ship to escort us to our home grown, Lovely driver, Andreas. It was a Pleasure to start the day without any crowds with a stroll down the cute main street of Katakolon where we found a Delightful coffee and a Delicious bakery.
From there, we went to Magna Grecia (again with no crowds), which is a Don’t Miss family-owned farm specializing in olive groves and wine where we had a Terrific olive oil and wine tasting tour followed by a Fabulous lunch in the lush surroundings.
Our final stop was Olympia where at my request, Despina arranged for us to pick up virtual reality glasses from Olympia Back in Time. Sadly, I did not take her up on her offer of a certified guide, because I thought the VR glasses with audio would suffice. While we very much enjoyed the experience the VR glasses provided, they worked intermittently, and were not at all aligned with the sites we were seeing. I think the best way to do Olympia would be to enjoy the VR glasses to get the feel and history of the place while seated in the air-conditioned museum, and then walk around the archaeological site with a guide so as to know what you are looking at when you are there.
While we toured the museum after the archaeological site, our Wonderful Andreas ran the VR glasses back to the office before they closed for lunch, before coming back to get us back to our ship in plenty of time. Great, organized, personal service for a Fantastic shore excursion!
