Couple of weeks ago in May we took a sailing trip from Capo d'Orlando to Aeolian islands. We have visited 5 out of 7 islands: Vulcano, Lipari, Panarea, Stromboli, Salina. There are not so many people outside Italy who know about them, even less who have been to. The islands (7) are beautiful, authentic and unspoiled with well preseved nature and low population. Some islands have less than 300 inhabitants and each island has something unique to offer: hot mud pool on Vulcano, rocks in the sea and beautiful sceneries on Panarea, erupting volcano on Stromboli, lush vegetation, local wines and nice rocky arch in a picturesque bay in Salina, "buzzing" Lipari.
We started at marina of Capo d'Orlando, newly opened marina with nice facilities, lots of free berths and wide channels. The boat was rented from Sail Utopia together with the skipper, Franco. Well equiped 45' italian hand built Comar which impressed us, beginners in sailing, by ability to sail even with as low as 5kn of wind, fast and agile sport cruiser, yet quite comfortable. The skipper Franco is very skilled, he let us do things on our own sharing his sailing wisdom in a relaxing and welcoming manner. He was also a great guide who made a program for us, organized transfers from the airport, leaded to all main spots and introduced to the best of local cuisine. The trip was a great and enjoyable experience from all perspectives: weather, saling, nature, cuisine. Heavily recommended for those who want to do relaxed sailing and enjoy discovering new areas.
As two islands remain unseen, 5 days was too short to visit all 7 islands, we will come again next year! See you soon, Franco!

I spent a wonderful week sailing with Sail Utopia from Capo D'Orlando in Sicily, visiting 6 of the Aeolian islands. We had about 3 days of excellent winds and some great weather as you would expect in Sicily in June (just one heavy shower on the first day). The skipper (Franco) was great - very patient, encouraging and chilled out. Highlight of the trip was the trek up the Stromboli volcano! You need to be reasonably fit to do this but it is well worth the effort. My photos don't go close to doing justice to what an amazing experience this was. Something to remember for a lifetime. We were fortunate to have great visibility of the volcanic activity including explosions, lava spurts and smoke.
Other brilliant aspects to the trip were some superb restaurants on different islands (especially good fish of course but also traditional Italian cuisine), lovely coastal walks, beautiful swimming locations and a trip into a large cave in the yacht's dinghy.
The whole week was a brilliant way to chill out away from the stress of work. Highly recommended! Thanks Franco and all at Sail Utopia.

Sail Utopia was the trip of a lifetime through the historic beauty of the Aeolian Islands. Franco is a great and safe skipper, always willing to share his tremendous knowledge and skills in Mediterranean sailing and itineraries. One highlight was the climb of Stromboli volcano -- exceeded our expectations by far! We have made great friends and memories that will not be forgotten on this one week excursion. Thank you Franco!
