We drove up the Formentor peninsula and were rewarded with great views out across the island. The drive is challenging in parts and was not helped when the last part of the road was closed. The carpark at this point was also full, so changing direction meant multiple tight and short manouevres, and the drive back was narrow due to parking along the road. However, the views did make up for it!

We stopped off here on the drive up to the lighthouse. Shortly after leaving Port de Pollenca, the climb out takes you here. A great opportunity to see some stunning vistas on a clear day. Opposite the small car park at Mirador a road leads up to the watchtower which I also recommend visiting as this is higher than the Mirador and provides 360 degree views of the surrounding area.

Tip: We got here around 08:15am and there was hardly anyone here so go early which makes the whole experience more pleasant. By contrast, on our return from the lighthouse, passing Mirador, the car park was full later in the day with cars, bikes, tourists and several tour buses.

We walked from the centre of Puerto pollensa leaving early to avoid traffic on the road and heat of the day. 5km to view point car park then another mile or so to very top, cars can only go so far. We walked round trip in 4 hours but this included many stops for photos, snacks etc so prob could have walked in 3 1/2 hrs round trip. Amazing views, well worth doing early before the crowds arriving as we were leaving and surprisingly few actually bother to go to the "peak". Even better views there.

Do not miss this if near Puerto Pollensa. Very steep and windy road from near the military base towards Formentor. Walk or cycle to the viewing point if you're very fit or drive if you're brave - be careful - but it's well worth it the views from the top are astoundingly beautiful - the best on the island I think. Or get the bus from town - amazing how the drivers cope with the road. Definatelt worth it and you will probably see wild goats!

When in Port de Pollenca we always drive to Cap de Formentor to see the sun rise and on our return, we allways stop here to take a walk on the secured cliff path to see the views. Allways spectacular - the views and the goats. If you cross the road you have a wonderfull vuew down towards Port de Pollenca.

I took advantage of the "Active Alcudia" SUNSET TOUR, by minibus.
I was collected from my hotel in Port de Pollenca at 6pm and returned by 10pm (A very personable service by Gerd and his wife- with wine/soft drink & snack provided).
The cliff-side hairpin bends along narrow roads are not for the "faint-hearted"! Coaches not allowed. However, Gerd was a safe, competent driver who was willing to stop at many viewing points - to facilitate my photography.
Of all the areas visited (Torre de Albercutx, Formentor Beach, Cap Formentor Lighthouse and Mirador Es Colomer - for the sunset) - the Lighthouse was the most spectacular.
I got many spectacular photos - some of which required a little climbing over loose stones - but, as a reasonably fit 74 year old - I managed it.
Don't leave Majorca without seeing this area of outstanding natural beauty.
The five star (?) famous Formentor Hotel is situated in this area; frequented in the past by Winston Churchill, Agatha Christie and many other famous people. Restricted mainly to residents - with new building forbidden in the area.
A photographer/bird/nature lover's paradise!

Cycled out to the lighthouse as part of a recovery day. Lovely route with a variety of views. The route is the same out as you ride in so navigation is easy even for the directionally challenged. Biggest issue for cycling was the number of cars, you need to stay alert! Unless you are an early bird its probably quicker to ride on a bike than go in a car as when we got out to the lighthouse the road becomes a car park. Its managed so that only cars allowed up to the car park as others leave so I could imagine quite a long wait. We just cycled past. Views are stunning at the top and the cafe was busy but we managed to grab a table. On the way back I became a cropper with the traffic when a car just decided to stop in front so they could admire the view. Unfortunately I wasn't quick enough to unclip. Minor damage to my knee (and pride) but a lesson learnt. On the way back in between the two climbs on the route there is a small detour (150 meters) to a fabulous beach and cafe, well worth a pit stop. Only regret was that I only did this ride once. Only one thing for it, will have to go back :-)

Get on your bike (preferably a carbon road racer) grind up, enjoy the view, then carry on all the way to the lighthouse. Great ride, mind the buses on the descent on your way back!

I really enjoyed the views en route, but the view point is definitely worth exploring a bit, on a sunny day, as well as on a cloudy and windy one.. In fact, I liked it even more on a stormy day- simply spectacular with the dark menacing clouds hanging around..
I wish I'd had the opportunity to see the place first thing in the morning or at the sunset...
