Near Sapanta you shall find a place of more recent making and this is the Sapanta-Peri Monastery . It is not of historical importance since it is a recent church and monastery complex - established in 1997 (so it is recent - to "replace" the old Peri monastery that today is on the lands of Ukraine. - yeah drawing maps by politicians makes awkward situations from time to time).
However it is definitely worth visiting - even that those who built it were just little carried "away" by fervor and built the tallest wooden bell tower in Europe (potential in the world ) - it is 75 m tall (78 m with the cross on top and the lightning conductor).
The church of the complex is not entirely made of wood - it has also stone / brick - so it ain't really a "full" wooden church - but it is as close as it gets.
I don't like the "souvenir store" inside the church - but otherwise it is inserting to visit and since you are in Sapanta it is no detour to stop here.

It's a nice place to visit if you are in the Sapanta area. The monastery is located in the woods. You can take nice walk there from the main street if you want. The main building has a nice architecture, it's built in the specific local style. The grounds are very well kept. A must see.

Do not miss this spot if you get to Sapanta village in Maramures.

They say it's the tallest wooden construction in Europe.

A 12 min nice walk through an alley right through the woods will take you to this beautiful place where you can take amazing pictures. Unfortunately, we didn't go inside the church because we were with our bicycles. This ia the heist wooden tower built in Romania.

Don't miss the place when romanian bank holiday because you'll see people dressed very trasitional. You will be amazed by how more beautiful this place gets

The wooden church is still in construction on the inside but beautiful! It has a very tall spire, one of the tallest in Europe! The place is quiet and serene. There is no fee to enter the place.

When visiting the " Merry cemetery " you have to pass by this wonderful recent Monastery in the middle of the woods at only 1.5 km from the Cemetery . In this oase of energy and beauty , far away from all stress , you certainly will recuperate from the busy environment of the Cemetery

Once you have seen the Merry Cemetery you must drive down the road and visit this monastery. Such a beautiful, peaceful place to visit. Service was just letting out when we went so were very quiet and just made our around and took pictures. Everything built in just an incredible way and such a stunning sight to see!

Just two days into, an 11 day adventure of Romania and Transylvania and whilst this wasn't on the itinerary as such, I was really pleased to make a visit. My guide and I drove down the track, which hugged a flowing river and then into the woodland. it is very scenic and very beautiful, with a series of buildings. We had a good look around and I found the experience very enriching and captivating. The sight and sound of birds was also wonderful. Quite ironic that I stayed at the beautiful guesthouse on the other side!

Located close to the Merry Cemetery, this monastery is definitely worth a visit to see how the amazing tall wooden churches are constructed. You can investigate the interior of the not yet completed tall tower. Use you cell phone for light as the electricity was not functioning when we were there. My camera shots turned out great so that the huge timber construction can be seen. The grounds are lovely as well.
