We enjoyed our time here. But there should have been better signs coming off the highway and there should be a sign as to where Caroline's grave is. The day use area was particularly good - there were murals made to pay tribute to the 100 year mark. There were several picnic tables, good washrooms, a couple of horseshoe pits. While walking on the paved path north of the day use area, we encountered a bear. It didn't approach us, but I think there should have been signs posted about that. We saw a cemetery and the factor's house (where there was good signage about the history). We also saw the market garden (greenhouse) and the mini golf. We did not take the tour of the park, as it was very expensive.

The area is absolutely beautiful with one of the great bridges in Alberta. The bridge itself is an amazing structure over the peace river and the campground area looks like a real nice spot to stay.

First off, the drive down into the valley is breathtaking. And the huge yellow bridge we crossed definitely interested my children as well. We went to the visitors center where there is a very small display and gift shop to look at inside. If you pay a small fee they will give you a tour and open up the historic buildings on site for you to have a look at. We opted out of this and instead walked around the park by ourselves. It was enjoyable for its beauty and you can still walk next to the old buildings and take pictures if you like. You are right next to a huge river (I believe it is Peace River). We walked over to the playground which featured an old fort for kids with a long slide leading out of it. Small children require adult supervision as their are tall ladders to climb up top. But my 3 year old got up and down with help from us. Also we enjoyed the swing sets! Then we made the fairly short walk over to Dunvegan Garden and enjoyed walking around it and touring the greenhouse. On the walk over we noticed the gardens which had long rows of cabbage, beets, and other seasonal vegetables which was kind of neat to see on such a huge scale. There was a place to get ice cream as well even though we didn't get any ourselves. And I spent a good half hour taking portraits next to their gorgeous retaining walls. For any photographers, this is a dream spot. Overall we spent about 3 hours here and enjoyed it thoroughly.
It appeared there was a campground on site, or nearby, as well. And we saw people carrying firewood so I am assuming there is that option too.

The tour guides are so knowledgeable! Our tour guide Michaela was amazing, it was clear she knew her stuff but was not just reciting it but was interested to know what would interest and excite us personally. She answered all our questions and made our visit very delightful.

We spent part of a day here with extended family and were very impressed with the organization, cleanliness, friendly staff, historical buildings and the beautiful view over the river. We built a fire to cook hot dogs and s'mores with provided firewood (imagine?!) in the day camp area. Would absolutely return, crossing the bridge is also a highlight.

This is one of my favourite places to stop in. It is absolutely beautiful and it is full of wonder. There are a few historic buildings, and I would definitely book a guided tour. I usually stop by, to ground myself on the lands of the original peoples.

Perfect for a Sunday afternoon picnic, weiner roast, family pictures or camping. Dunvegan has something for everyone! Situated on the majestic Peace River with breathtaking views and stunning photo opportunities. The kids love the playground and fort and the ample open spaces to run and play. I love the guided tours and rich history as told by the knowledgeable staff.

We revisited this beautiful spot with many childhood memories. We were greeted at the Visitor Centre by Michaela who went above and beyond to ensure that we saw everything at the site. Her warm and outgoing personality was key to us feeling that we were part of the fur trade ourselves.

Fort Dunvegan is an interesting historical site, beside the Dunvegan Cable Bridge. It was a trading fort and along side it is an Anglican historical site. The grave of one of the early cleric's daughters is in the wooded area beside the Peace River. In this same area is a peaceful picnic area, beside the river, called The Maples. It has several large century-old Manitoba Maples planted by the early Anglican missionaries.
