¡The train trip most spectacular in the world! Every day since 1961, El Chepe ventures into imposing landscapes of the Sierra Tarahumara, until it reaches the área that encompasses the most representative characteristics of the Tarahumara culture, history and folklore; the Barrancas del Cobre, or Copper Canyon, as this región is know worldwide.

We enjoyed the journey very much and thought the views and experience far nicer than the Grand Canyon. We stayed over at a hotel in Urique. Very good breakfast on the train.

What a wonderful train ride! The only passenger train service available in Mexico. With varying landscapes and beautiful scenery, this train is definitely worth taking. THE scenic route through the Mexican Rockies. Brings you into touch with Mexico's Tarahumara culture, a native tribe still living as they did centuries ago. Definitely visit the Barrancas del Cobre, with its Zip-lines, rock-climbing, etc. Friendly staff. One downside: It's quite slow on the...More

Takes 6 hours, but it was a lot of fun, good service, clean, food descent. Interesting lineup in the morning, You line up along the tracks, hundreds of you. Outside, no station to speak of.

This was the most beautiful train ride. The scenery was fantastic. If you have a choice between 1st and 2nd class don't bother with first class. The only difference is the dining car, the food is not included. 2nd class has burritos and drinks.

Barbara, I can't say because we flew in and took a taxi to the station. I don't have a gauge for the safety of the neighborhood the station is in.

You DO need to buy separate tickets for each part of your trip. If you don't do that and stop in any other city they will charge you a considerable fee. A friend of mine did it, I don't remember the amount he had to pay, but... More
