Small ... but perfectly formed

Alhama de Granada is a small town in a stunningly beautiful area of Andalucía. We were visiting the town for the day and passed the interpretation centre. A young lady from the centre came out to speak to us and invited us in.

It's a small museum that covers the history of the town. It provides a "feel" of the place, rather than a full and detailed history.

We found it interesting and well worth the visit. Many of the exhibits and explanations were in English, which very much helped. We saw a short film on the spirit and culture of Alhama de Ganada (moving and impressive) and there was an exhibit in a dark cellar devoted to a serious earthquake in the 19th centaury ... again ... it was rather impressive.

The lady who first invited us in occasionally left the front desk to ask whether we had seen exhibits and gave us lots of help. We were immensely impressed by her kindness and enthusiasm. We very much enjoyed our short visit to the "interpretation centre"

Fun afternoon
Jan 2017 • Family
Nice and cheap afternoon out. The kids were free and it was only €2 per adult. We spent an hour or so looking around and watching the videos. The kids also loved the dressing up clothes

Housed in the former jail, the centre informs about the history and the sights worth seeing in Alhama.

Modest but interesting

A snap shot of the history of the town including a/v presentation and interactive elements. Worth spending 20 mins in the briefing before exploring the town, gorge and spa.

Interesting

Worth a look for sure. The woman at the desk was helpful and friendly. Our visit was short, and perhaps I missed some elements: but it's a great start in a wonderful building in explaining the incredible history of this charming town.

If you visit Alhama de Granada you must visit CIAG
Feb 2014 • Friends
The CIAG is the place where Alhama de Granada is explained. Its history, the famous earthquake of Christmas Day 1884 which virtually destroyed the city. The local culture such as the Carnival, the Fiestas, the Churches, the Arab heritage, the Spanish Conquest and much more.

This is a place you can't miss. Entry fee is only a couple of euros and you get a lot of information for your money. New exhibits every so often, therefore is has something new to offer every visit.

Staff are well informed, polite and love their job.

Alhama de Granada village tour
Mar 2014 • Couples
do the tour before you start exploring the area, it will give you ideas about walks and palces to see locally. Speaks spanish and english, cost a few euros each. No prams or wheel chairs due to lots of steps and cobbles. visit El Tigra and Al Dente bars for refreshments and a meal too!!
