Tony's approach is all-inclusive: geology, botany, history, archaeology and, not least, literature formed part of this easy two-hour walk across The Burren. Easy, even with a prosthetic knee, but wonderful in what one can learn in two hours or so. Tony's ease with and love of his subject is evident and infectious. It is one thing to read about flora... Magnificently self-educated botanist, historian and loveable raconteur Tony Kirby provides a witty, engaging, instructive and emotionally––even spiritually––engaging introduction to the Burren. Clearly he's a man who loves his land and can convey the reverberations of its ancient history and prehistory, as well as the fascinating agrarian story of the present time, in which for centuries man and his livestock yearly... I found Tony Kirby while researching guided walks in The Burren, and since his reviews were so positive, my friend and I decided to show up for a morning walk that left The Burren Centre at 10:30. As it turned out, the reviews I'd read were absolutely spot on, and we couldn't have been happier. Hearing Tony's stories about the... More

It was a real pleasure for my husband and me to hike with Tony through the Burren. I had bought a wildflower book at the Visitor's Center, and never had to consult it once. He genuinely loves what he does and his research and studies have made him an expert in botany, archaeology, and history and geology of the Burren.... More

Tony Kirby is a gem. I can only reiterate what other reviews have said. He is highly knowledgeable about everything: botany, biology, history, religion, geography etc.- a real renaissance man. He is a delightful person to be with- he has so many interesting stories and he has an excellent sense of humour. He also waited for us for 45 minutes... More

Tony shares his knowledge and love of the Burren so you too are taken in by its singular beauty, magic and spirituality. A walk with Tony heightens your sense of the Burren's special geology, beautiful small flowers and plants, animals and on our walk he also focused on the area's religious and political history with a visit to a beautiful...
