Hadn't been to Gartelmann for years...it has changed hands and we didn't see any magpies but were told it was too early in the day. The tasting room has been extended at the back and frankly looked more able to cater for groups rather than just the 2 of us. Luke made us very welcome and obviously knew his wines. The Benjamin Semillon was nice although my wife preferred a very good Verdelho, and there was a good Chardonnay too. It's good to see the re-emergence of this variety since I can't be doing with Pinot Gris. The WIlhelm Shiraz I remember of old...this vintage had plenty of tannin but was fruit driven and would mature well. Recommended to book a visit at a quiet time midweek.

Hi Geoffrey, Thanks for coming back, I am glad to hear you enjoyed your experience and also the new vintages of some old favourites. I will pass on your kind words to Luke, he is new to Gartelmann but has quickly become a valued part of the team. Hope to see you again in the Cellar Door soon. Cheers, Jim S.

What a lovely refreshing stop off. Rick gave superb info and there was no hard sell but even so, we bought 3 bottles to stash in our luggage back to the UK. The Pinot Gris was great (never thought I would say that!)

This was our first stop on a winery tour organized by the nearby Crowne Plaza hotel and it was a good start because their logo is a magpie and we have fed magpies for at least 15 years so obviously we like them. The physical location is the most impressive of the three wineries plus distillery we visited that afternoon. Jim was our host and he was both knowledgeable and entertaining. We purchased 2 wines glasses as souvenirs plus a bottle of Moscato (my partner's favorite) although I though their Pinot Gris was very good as well.

When I saw their labels, I knew they were soul mates. Obviously we both love not only good wine but Magpies as well. The property itself is "worth a Mass." The wine-tasting terrace is in a strikingly beautiful bucolic landscape. It is lying on the shores of a lake, surrounded by green fields, from where you can see Deck Cafe, the lakeside restaurant, a few steps away. With or without a wine tasting, I could happily spend a few relaxing hours there. Jim was a very entertaining host with enviable knowledge. We were happy to listen to the description of the wines that we just sampled. The fresh, refreshing taste of Stephanie Pinot Gris was easy to imagine on my desk in the form of a glass of wine before lunch. I really enjoyed the rich flavor of the 2016 Phillip Alexander, although I admit that I didn’t find the chocolate in it. Since sweet wines and muscats are in between my weaknesses, for me, the palm was taken away by NV Janette Moscato. I am even now sampling this honeyed nectar while writing a review to draw inspiration from it.
This wine tasting will always be one of my fond memories.

I can't say enough good things about the wine tasting, every wine was great, ended up buying two bottles of the Jessica 2017 Verdelho, has a bit of a passionfruit kick, like a tropical vacation in a wine glass. The reds were terrific there, too.

Hi Melissa We are glad you liked all the wines - the Jessica Verdelho is named after my mother who really liked that sort of wine. Enjoy with some Asian dishes. It is wonderful.

Gartelmanns was the last stop on our winery journey, which was a blessing as it set a high standard that few other wineries could match. Our sever was friendly and knowledgable, we found everything we sampled to be utterly delightful and delicious. Very very highly recommended!

We enjoyed a leisurely visit & tasting here. The staff are so pleasant & helpful, & the wines are rather special. We ventured into the restaurant for a lovely meal accompanied by one of the Gartelmann wines. The deck was the perfect spot for lunch. When we went to collect & pay for our wines from our earlier tasting we received a bonus 10% discount because we had eaten there. This was a lovely surprise. We will definitely return!!!

We visited here early March and Jorg Gartelman was our tasting host. We spent about an hour with him as he really loves to talk and, we had the time. He took us through is delicious whites and smooth reds and gave us a history of how he perfected each one and why they were so different in flavour to others in the region. All very interesting and delivered with a great repartee which we threw right back which made us all laugh a lot. Made for a great afternoon. We came home several bottles richer and several dollars poorer! Well worth every cent.
Great location, nice ambience. They also have a quite sizeable undercover deck off the tasting area to cater for groups.
