If you're spending time in Chiang Mai, you should visit here. About two hour drive from the city centre. Two interesting monuments to the Royal Family, lovely gardens, good views and additional sites nearby for a day tour if required. The astronomical building is here and sometimes open. The highest point in Thailand is here, and it's certainly colder. There is an entrance fee - far higher for foreigners than for Thais - which is sadly common throughout Thailand.

The park is amazing! The pagodas are really like on the travel book's cover. Thailand's highest point is a nice table, so you can take pictures to prove that you have been there. The 'trek' is really a walk in the woods, not as it is advertised 'in the jungle'. There are stunning waterfalls around. The only thing I would do differently is not to use the group tour from Chiang Mai as the guide was a horrible person, everything was around her, she was almost always standing where you could take the best pictures and forgot to mention than the village was closed which was part of the trekking tour, so we had to climbed back on the same route where we went down!

The park, 'highest point in Thailand' and twin peak pagodas are not worth the trek out from Chiang Mai. We were expecting a nice hike in nature and it was more like a commented nature trail. The two pagodas provide nice views but that is all.

Great getting out into the countryside .. Several stops along the way made this trip an easy drive .. The van was full with 12 ppl but we were comfortable . Ginny was a wonderful guide with a great smile and caring attitude toward me. Excellent English . I am almost 60 and had a knee brace on. So this trek was ambitious but our guide, from the White Karen tribe seemed to know intuitively and handed me a sturdy stick. Yeah ! Now we are on our way ... Excellent back story and info as we trekked our way through jungle , waterfalls , farm land and some very steep steps . Just take your time and dunk your feet in the cold swimming hole ! Thanks , again, Ginny your smile is contagious.

Where do I start. Tour was booked through GetYourGuide and they then turn your booking over to Trip Guru and that’s where the experience becomes exceptional thanks to our tour guide Faith. I had seen some great reviews about him so asked specifically for him and was thrilled he was available. He picked us up on time and as soon as everyone was in the van, he spent the time we were en route to the first falls sharing his Thai culture with us - was so informative and interesting. We went to both falls as outlined in the tour, followed by a visit to the White Karen tribe village. This is not a “Zoo village tour” like the long neck - the locals are not on display or being exploited which we were happy about as we had read about this. We went to their village where they were simply working their fields. We stopped by a little village cafe and enjoyed a coffee made from their local coffee beans. We went to the twin pagodas which is beyond explanation - stunning as the pictures show online and to top it off the sun came out as we got up there making for exceptional photos. We ended our day with a stop at the Hmong tribe market. This is a full 9 hour day. It’s worth every penny not only because it’s a great tour but because of Faith. We saw other tours go by us where the guide wasn’t speaking at all. Faith explained everything to us that we were seeing so we had some history. He’s professional, his English is perfect and Woot the driver kept us safe on the road. Thank you to both of them for making this day memorable - you can book this tour I believe directly through Trip Guru. The park and pagoda fees amount to 340 Baht per person. The local lunch was 40 baht for curry chicken so very cheap. Don’t miss this tour!! And ask for Faith!!
