This is a simple but impressive memorial. It is a bit a mess to get to as the sign that tells you to turn is easily missed and on our Google map and Waze the monument did not appear. Prepare for possible parking problem (there...More

Benjamin commited suicide there, the monument is moving but the mood matches the whole town. If you are in Portbou, probably the"best attraction"

Above the town, at the small cities cemetery, the memorial of one of Europas sharpest intellectuals sits between sea, stone and sky. A place to contemplate history and personal tragedy; sad, striking and inspiring.

We got to see this memorial by chance, looking for an alternative way to pass our time during the strike in Catalunya. From the outside the memorial goes unnoticed - a peace of metal, but once you read the story behind it and look through...More

The monument homaging Walter Benjamin is worth a visit. At a walking distance from Portbou main beach. It is a pity that the city hall doesn't keep this monument clean and tidy. It would be a landmark of the area

Walter Benjamin Memorial is a beautiful and emotional memorial to remember the jewish and german philosopher, who suicided in the little town of Portbou (near the border between Spain and France). The memorial evoke an entrance to the sea from cliff without the possibility of...More

I enjoyed learning about Walter Benjamin's history. It was a fascinating visit and also, probably, the biggest attraction Portbou has to offer.

I travel in the Spanish town of Port Bou, on the track of the right to take end of life German art theorists Walter Benjamin. I'm going in this coastal city in Spain. I am sure that it`s full of sun. While saying the sun,...More

All the way to Portbou we wondered if we would be the only pilgrims on this grey Catalan autumn day but even off season, on a sunday, the town very quiet, there was a humbled procession of the sort of people who read the New...More
