We wanted to take our teenagers somewhere different (after many days of temples, shrines, castles and gardens) and since they both like Yakult we decided to book on a tour. It's certainly off the beaten tourist trail and situated in a pretty spot near mountains and a river. The factory is still quite new, immaculately clean and the tour lasts 60min with a sample drink and pretty corny promo video first then an interesting walk along a viewing platform. At the end we were each given a little bag containing another drink and a ruler made from recycled Yakult bottles. The video and guide used only Japanese but all the signage is in English as well and most things are self-explanatory. Best bit, it's free and we're continually impressed by the high standard of Japanese service. The 2 lovely old blokes in impressive full uniform at the front security gate saluted as guests drove off. Fascinating tidbit: The word 'Yakult' originated from the Esperanto word 'Jahurto' meaning yoghurt!
