A large art gallery of about 1,500 paintings and sculptures of nineteenth- and twentieth-century Greek and foreign artists. I real enjoyed it. Free entry.

A non-profit, public welfare institution, functioning as a local Cultural and Exhibition Centre. It is owned by Mr. Panayiotis Koutsavakis.
It promotes and propagates fine art with emphasis on Greek figurative painting and sculpture. The collection is enriched with pieces of art from Greeks and foreign Artists, busts and sculptures and it is way too interesting.
The institution covers an area of 2.000 sq. m.
Free entrance.
Visiting hours:
Tuesday to Friday 9.00 - 15.00
Saturdays & Sundays 10.00 - 15.00
Closed on Mondays and holidays.
It is 5 minutes away from the bus stop in Platanos Square, Kifissia (buses from Athens: A7, B7, E7 (express); from Palaio Faliro: 550) and ten minutes from Kifissia railway station.
Address: 11 Levidou Street, Kifissia, 145 62 Athens

Free entry to this large, eclectic collection of art, built up over the years by a private collector and now open to the public. It spreads over 2 or 3 floors (one was closed when I was there) and there's a suggested route to follow through the many rooms. The lowest level is chock full of drawings and watercolours, with oils, sculpture and other media upstairs.
There's lots to see, and lost to interest art-lovers, in many different styles and (it has to be said) of varying quality. Exhibits are labelled with the name of the artist, and dates, but no other info is available. Plus the works are rather squashed in (so many objects, but the gallery size is of course limited).
I felt slightly disappointed that there was no information about artists, schools, styles or traditions here. I enjoyed looking, but didn't learn much. It could be so much better curated - but I suppose that would mean (because of space limitations) having some stuff in storage. And probably funding it with entry fees.
But if you are visiting Athens and have had enough of ancient ruins, hop on the metro to the end of the line and pay this place a visit. It has its own charm, and the location (Kifissia) is a nice place to see, as well.

In a commercial precinct a basement location. An underground depot of mostly figurative works:
landscapes, historic, heroic oil paintings mostly if not exclusively. I have never come across, with my 'limited' experience of such idyllic boredom. Despite the size and population of works, which is remarkable, even if asked to compile such an ugly assortment, in terms of effect, texture, character, contemporary irrelevance, one would have failed to be so singularly effective. The young attendant though was courteous and informing- the only element of grace in a pool of artless glut

Having visited the Gallery a few months ago, I left myself astonished and more than thrilled with the entire ambience. It is a very elegantly designed and at the same time minimally decorated art place, located in the Northern subs of Athens with lots of artcrafts, original paintings from famous moderns as well as older European artists and artpieces waiting silently and patiently for the visiting admirers to be left with open mouths! It's a must and highly recommended both for art experts and ordinary people to come along and dedicate 1 hour of their lives to get lost in that ''ocean'' of fine art! Most importantly, there is free entrance for everyone!

Great selection and informative staff.
Spacious enough to take a seat and drink it all in. It doesn't seem to get busy.

Well it’s not so much hidden as we found it hard to find. Very discrete entrance with no garish signs but do take the trouble to find it. An eclectic collection of modern and contemporary art beautifully displayed in a lovely building. Lots of cool marble. Helpful, friendly staff. This picture will give you a better idea of where it is situated.
