About
Brigitte and Philippe Subra came from France in 1998 to live in Mendoza. Philippe managed a company in the electric business of Mendoza for more than 4 years. They created CarinaE Viñedos y Bodega (CarinaE SA) in January of 2003. The company dedicates itself to produce high quality wines, with grapes that are produced in its own vineyards of low yields located in the traditional first zone of Mendoza. The wines are made in the winery they rebuilt at their property in Cruz de Piedra, Maipú.CarinaE has near 20ha of productive vineyards that are spread around its property at Tres Esquinas, Cruz de Piedra, Maipú (8 ha of 85 years vineyard of Malbec, 0,5 ha of Syrah, and 2 ha of Sabernet-Sauvignon), and on the famous Calle Cobos in Perdriel, Luján de Cuyo (3ha and 4,5ha of 90 years old vineyards of Malbec). Near the Cruz de Piedra property, a little vineyard of 2ha was newly planted with syrah and malbec, and begun to produce syrah in 2011.This “Boutique” winery has a vat capacity of 260,000 liters. It has renewed concrete vats coated with epoxy paint and a cellar with 200 French barrels. CarinaE has the necessary technology to produce high-quality wines.

This is a small boutique winery. It had been recommended to me so we made a reservation. We had a small tour of the vineyard and the facility and then a tasting.
The wines were ok. One was pretty oxidized. The one we liked the best was $44 Pesos ( about $44 US) and we didn’t think it was worth that price so we didn’t buy any. Our guide was fine. Out of the 5 places we tasted on this trip, this was our least favorite

The winery is a small, family owned business which definitely made the experience more charming. We went late in the day and so it was only us and one other group so our experience might be slightly different, but, we were so well looked after and treated like family! The wine was delicious and there was a large selection to choose from. A truly great experience!

We visited this winery on our second day in Mendoza. We were greeted by a friendly dog right away, which is always a good sign. We purchased a cheese plate and it was delicious (so fresh!), and we enjoyed a private tasting. This is a small vineyard, the smallest we visited while in Mendoza, but the personal one-on-one interaction and camaraderie stood out as well. This was a lovely experience.

We visited multiple wineries during our stay in Mendoza, all very different, and we agreed this one was our favourite. Firstly, we were able to visit on Sunday - it’s one of the only wineries open then. Philippe, the owner, was lovely and friendly. Gave us an informative tour in English and then a guided tasting of 5 delicious wines. They also prepared some food for us! They even called us a taxi so we could go to the other winery we’d planned to go to that day.
This is a small winery and certainly not as fancy and some others but well, well worth a visit.

Very charming winery with interesting history. Visit was quick, and that was good as we can’t have long visits in all of Mendoza’s wineries. Vitoria was great in recognizing the different type of visitors and going straight forward with us. But she was patient with another group giving them a good experience with the basics of wine making. Tasting was also very interesting and we boight some of their bottles. As it was quick (about 30 minutes), our 4 year old daughter was enough entertained with the yard, the dogs, and with crayons Vitoria smartly offered her.

We spent today cycling from Maipu around the surrounding areas and really enjoyed our trip to Carinae. We were welcomed by Bridgette and had a short tour of the wine making process they use before trying 3 of their delicious wines. Would highly recommend the extra cycle if you have time!

I am going to gush a bit. This winery was incredible. 3 levels of tasting available, you get to choose your own adventure. They have an option of eating delicious local dry salami and goat cheese with your wine. The English and Spanish speaking staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. She even helped us with finding a place to stay in town for the night and called the hotel for us! We were able to meet the husband and wife who own the vineyard (and their delightful dogs and puppies!). They have an incredibly romantic story involving their move from France to the Mendoza region. Definitely a must!

We were recommended this place by our hotel and were glad we stopped on our bicycle journey around the Lujan Valley and Maipu.

Amazing wines. We shipped several home as the quality was so good!

We visited three wineries and I think it best to cover them all here to provide a better perspective. Three wineries was adequate; the wine making process is remarkable straightforward, but of course the process of growing grapes, the variety, the soils etc. require the expert. Anyway, after three visits it gets repetitive. We toured the Bodega Familia Zuccardi, the Clos de Chacras Bodega Familia, and Carinae Vinedos and Bodega. The Zuccardi tour was extremely interesting in that the tour guide had a passion for the product and was extremely knowledgeable and had all the time in the world for us. Zuccardi tends to use the most up-to-date methods. The Clos de Chacras bodega was old-world and very charming and allowed us to see old vats from the 1800s, oak barrels and cellars. Again, the tour guide had lots to offer and was very friendly and lots of time. We not only saw the wine-making process but also the old vats, the old cellars, and stacks of oak barrels. For us the Carinae Vinedos and Bodega was a waste of time, and expensive. The guide was clearly in a rush to visit with her friends who arrived a few short moments after we had signed in for the tour. In addition, the owner of the winery, a former French engineer who made a career change, was right there in the kitchen with us and he neither spoke nor even smiled. The entire tour took less than 10 mins compared to 45-60 mins in the other two wineries; perhaps on a different day it might have been better. We tacked on a short self-guided tour of LAUR Olive oil making plant which is directly opposite Carinae.

Thank you for your review. I beg your apologies for not having welcomed you during your visit. I admit not having been very bright this day there! We take your comment not like a punch that would put us KO, but rather as a glass of cold water in the figure, well deserved, and which awakens us. Until then, we have had good feedback from our visitors on Trip Advisor, and we were spoiled, indeed and therefore a bit asleep. Your opinion reveals all the care that we should provide to our visitors to leave them an excellent memory of their time in Carinae, which of course is our goal. Your comment is beneficial. It will remain in our memory, and will help us to respect and satisfy all our visitors. Our team and I regret a lot of having received you in such a way. We hope that you will have the opportunity to come back to Mendoza and the desire to visit us again. You are welcome in Carinae Philippe Subra
