- Miguel Borja EMadrid, Spain198 contributionsCastle with a view of 10 in PeñafielEmblematic site of Peñafiel where you can take an original visit to the castle along with a small and quite interesting wine museum. It is recommended to go at the last minute and last session and it is easier to access. If you come to Peñafiel you should come to this castle, impressive views and seeing it inside is a charm, I think the talk should be taken around and made a little more interesting but it is very acceptable.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 22, 2024
- Opino3 contributionsFantastic visit. Rewarding conservation of Castilian culture and heritage. We were a group of 49 adults, it was a great experience. The guide was pleasant and the visit was educational, we really liked it. I recommend to all types of groups, families with children and adults. We completed the visit with the wine tasting with José Antonio and it was magnificent, educational and enjoyable.Visited April 2024Traveled with friendsWritten April 30, 2024
- Jose LProvince of A Coruna, Spain350 contributionsThe highlights of Peñafiel.I had been wanting to see this magnificent castle for a long time, the only drawback is that the visit is guided. While you wait you can see the wine museum, modern, well explained and with abundant audiovisual aids, the museum is beautiful and instructive. Once the group is formed, they begin the visit. In my case I arrived at 10:30 a.m., when they opened in the morning, and they didn't start the guided tour until 11:15. The guide is very good, but of the castle you can only see the structure and one floor of the keep. Of course, between the front and rear patios and the aforementioned tower, the structure and the surrounding views are very well visible.Visited May 2024Traveled soloWritten May 20, 2024
- shvarzNew York City, New York281 contributionsMust-see for a Penafiel visitThis is a rather unusual castle in its shape (like a long narrow boat) and is worth a visit. You have to take a guided tour and those are only in Spanish, but for additional 2 euros you can get an English audio guide, which gives pretty detailed explanations. The views are excellent.Visited June 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 18, 2024
- André S209 contributionsAn imposing castle and a wine museum that deserve to be visitedAn imposing castle, very well preserved and restored. Access to the top of the hill is made by road, a rather curved and tight but with spectacular views, such as the view of the castle that gives a 360 degree panorama. The visits are in groups, which may disappoint some, however, it turns out to be quite informative and interesting to follow. The wine museum inside the castle is another point of interest to visit.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten June 24, 2024
- José I. PuertasVaciamadrid, Spain6,648 contributionsThe most impressive castle in ValladolidUndoubtedly, it is a majestic castle. It cheats a little, because it is very elongated, adjusting to the size and shape of the spine where it sits. Very original. A very spacious tribute tower and houses the Wine Museum. Access by car is easy, and if you are not in a hurry and it is good temperature you can walk up. The visit is always guided, lasts about an hour and it is preferable to do it in the morning so as not to be too hot, although it is only a while and then in the tower of the tribute is good, it is advisable.Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten August 11, 2024

The simple and very pleasant explanation. The girl who made her very nice and kind.Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 21, 2024

It's a nice drive up to the castle. They're doing some work, so the parking was limited since the workers were using some of the spaces, but we were able to find a space.
The photos from the top are stunning. Unfortunately, we were not able to take a photo of the Protos building because the trees covered the view. We had just had a tour there, so it would have been nice.
We did not take the tour inside, our main interest was just to go up for the views.

We went through Penafiel on a day trip and decided to drive up to the castle. We managed to arrive just before the last tour of the day so joined that instantly. The tour is only offered in Spanish so my partner had to translate for me, but even so it was still worth it. The castle was uniquely narrow and there were some great facts and stories about how it was built and what took place there. You need to be either a Spanish speaker, or with a Spanish speaker though to make the most of this as I would of missed out on so much information had it not been for my partner.

The Castle is Perfect, from an Architectural point of view.
The guided tour, complete, full of information and with a pinch of sympathy included.
Panoramic Points that enhance the characteristics of the Castilian territory.
A Wine Museum, truly well thought out and created, inside one of the most iconic Castles in all of Spain, in the center of the most prestigious denomination, that of Ribera del Duero.
10 cum laude and academic kiss, for those who made the perfect synthesis of Style, Taste, History, Tradition and Culture possible.
The visit is highly recommended.

Not worth the drive - if you are there see it but don’t count on the tour. 45 minutes of talk with no useful historical info. From far the Castel is beautiful- from close, its cheaply restored with wrong materials. Somehow I feel it was built as a castle but not to serve as one - felt a bit fake as point of protection. The views are great but the guide is clueless and a bit rude. Don’t expect English in the tour even though ticket sales are in English.

Fatal. A group of 100 people. They spend an hour and a half moving 100 people through three areas alone. The guide is great but you cannot make groups for paying guided tours with 100 people at a time. Not recommendable.

The castle is phenomenal and the Provincial Wine Museum is interesting, but the guided tour of the castle has been a disaster, and there is no other way to visit it than paying for the visit. The guide could barely give any information about the castle and its history beyond the basic knowledge of someone who has done the E.S.O. or has read Wikipedia.

The castle is very beautiful. I give it a low rating because it can only be visited with a guided tour (1 hour) and by entering the wine museum. We didn't have that much time and we just wanted to see the inside of the castle. It's a shame they force you.

We were very disappointed, just before Siësta we couldn't get in. Driven 170 km for free, hiked high, we never thought for a moment that a historic building takes such a long lunch break. We haven't experienced this anywhere in historical sites in Spain. Too bad we kept driving. There's nothing upstairs but the castle, so waiting wasn't an option.

A must see in Peñafiel. Very good explanation of the history of the village and a great museum of wine traditions in the Ribera del Duero. Make sure you buy tickets beforehand and stick to the times. There is a guided tour included.

Penafiel is a very quiet town, we spent 2 nights here and visited the castle. It was closed - unless you bought a tour for the wines.
The walk up in the morning was lovely and quite easy and the views from the castle fantastic so we weren't disappointed.

Are they listening to input and considering audio tours with headphones in English?
Written June 28, 2018
I hope they do consider this input and offer up audio tours with headphones, but as previously mentioned, at the time of our visit, they did not.
