It's a nice drive up to the castle. They're doing some work, so the parking was limited since the workers were using some of the spaces, but we were able to find a space.
The photos from the top are stunning. Unfortunately, we were not able to take a photo of the Protos building because the trees covered the view. We had just had a tour there, so it would have been nice.
We did not take the tour inside, our main interest was just to go up for the views.

A must see in Peñafiel. Very good explanation of the history of the village and a great museum of wine traditions in the Ribera del Duero. Make sure you buy tickets beforehand and stick to the times. There is a guided tour included.

Penafiel is a very quiet town, we spent 2 nights here and visited the castle. It was closed - unless you bought a tour for the wines.
The walk up in the morning was lovely and quite easy and the views from the castle fantastic so we weren't disappointed.

Not worth the drive - if you are there see it but don’t count on the tour. 45 minutes of talk with no useful historical info. From far the Castel is beautiful- from close, its cheaply restored with wrong materials. Somehow I feel it was built as a castle but not to serve as one - felt a bit fake as point of protection. The views are great but the guide is clueless and a bit rude. Don’t expect English in the tour even though ticket sales are in English.

We went through Penafiel on a day trip and decided to drive up to the castle. We managed to arrive just before the last tour of the day so joined that instantly. The tour is only offered in Spanish so my partner had to translate for me, but even so it was still worth it. The castle was uniquely narrow and there were some great facts and stories about how it was built and what took place there. You need to be either a Spanish speaker, or with a Spanish speaker though to make the most of this as I would of missed out on so much information had it not been for my partner.

One of the most impressive castles that I’ve visited.
It houses a wine museum with very interesting information.
The tour was great and the views were even better. Even though it is dangerous to stop in the middle of the winding roads leading to the castle, in of of the curves I found the best spot for a picture.

The Castle is worth a visit. Once parked you can go for a short walk and enjoy the views of the city below. Sightseeing is only possible with a guide. We choose to visit the wine museum. It is a compact meseum offering support with videos. I am not a museum type of person but here it is easy to stay interested and once in time flies.

Interesting visit to this Castle overlooking and old medevil town in the middle of hills and valleys . Houses the regional wine museum with tours of the castle available every hour . Tours are in Spanish only and views are wonderful , some steep stairs to climb . Nice stop to visit .

This castle has a very storied history of those who lived in it, wrote in it, ruled in it, and died in it. However, unlike the castles of the south it is a traditional European castle and has been since laid almost bare. Most of the tour takes place on the rooftops or in the 'backyard' dungeons of the castle, with access to only one spartan room that leads to a cramped stone staircase that spirals to the roof. The room holds a few tapestries, a fireplace, a coat of arms, and two mannequins dressed in the styles of feudal Spain.
However, the best part of the tour was the guide. He was incredibly informative, and ensured that every member of the group was safely navigating the castle. There are really only four stops on the tour, but they last awhile because the guide is very in-depth with his information and explains everything you wanted to know (and some things you didn't) about the area that you're standing in.
The enterprise is wonderful, but at the end of the day...it's a relatively unremarkable castle, and even the best guides cannot make it more than that.

The attraction closes earlier than expected so we walked around rage outside. This place situated at the top of the hill imposes a significant figure above the area. With its stunning architecture it must be the most photographed building in the area. At night it gets more amazing

Are they listening to input and considering audio tours with headphones in English?

I hope they do consider this input and offer up audio tours with headphones, but as previously mentioned, at the time of our visit, they did not.
