After visiting Oldonyo sabuk which is under KWS, very well managed and safe, we decided to detour to the fourteen falls waterfalls. Big mistake.

On arrival, you feel ill at ease. Despite paying for entry fees to county government, there are many young men just sitting around. The "guides" in yellow-green jackets will hide the cost of the boat ride until the end. They will have you surrounded demanding exhorbitant amounts of money for a 20 minute tour. You will not leave without paying. I remained in the car with my sister and a sleeping child and was creeped out by the signalling between the men left up while the rest of the family went down to view the falls with guide. This site should be placed under KWS, it is mismanaged under the county government and very unsafe.

The time you entered the park, you will see young men wearing green vests, they will approach you will offer to guide you. Before you accept the offer request the charges. Remember every activity have different prices. Boat riding extra charge.. Photographer will charge @ 50ksh the pictures forwarded per SMS ..they will let you see the divers remember the charges..etc. ASK ASK ASK THE CHARGES BEFORE THE ACTIVITY !!

This is a woefully mismanaged sight. From the start things did not go smoothly. The two attendats, at the gate, bickered with eachother about how much to charge us. They wanted to know if we had a camera so they could charge us a fee to take pictures, they wanted to charge us for the vehicle, and to eat lunch (our own lunch). Eventually they gave us a friend price, and only chrged us per person.

The Fourteen Falls are lovely, if you can get past the fact that they are within a veritable landfill. Lots of rubbish in the water and loads of it all around the falls. The strange thing is that there was a huge, truck size, rubbish bin onsite. If someone would just pick up trash it would be better.

The second thing that botherd me was the annoying "guides". Look, Ive been around nature I dont need you to help me walk around. I go to nature to be away from people not harrased by them.

We were going to play around the falls and have lunch there. But after 15 minutes we were so disgusted with the place and annoyed at the constant offers from guides, that we just left.

The place and the scenes are amazing right from the entry point. However there is a cahoot of CONMEN and I am swayed to believe even the people at the gate are part of the Concrew.
Immediately after you enter a group of men dressed in green reflectors purporting to be guides join you without any consent , you will be overcharged to cross a 20m distance on a raft and again be taken around the place on rocks upto to the top of the falls. You will then be told on how you have adventured on Rock climbing 😂😂 and river adventure , which should cost you around 10,000/=. In short avoid the Men in Green. And talk to them before you start your adventure

Before we started crossing the river, they told us we will just give them a ' tip ' which we agreed. Only to our suprise that we are supposed to pay them 9k.
Crossing with the boat a distance of atleast 30Metres they were charging us 2k😭. We were forced to go on the other side where we used the bridge to cross.
Meaning we were to pay 11k plus 200sh entrance fee. What the heck ! 😳
I was with my 'Mpoa' 😂, I finally paid 500sh . That's ofcourse, after some few threats that we need a receipt and such...

Fourteen falls is a great place to visit. You could cross the river and the experience is very excited. You will hold your guide's hand and walk Pole Pole to cross the river. Make sure you walk slowly and don't fall.

The falls are amazing and beautiful to look at. The environment has been dirtied though and poorly maintained. The county could centralise the park collection fees, guides and sale of snacks to be more orderly.

We drove here from Nairobi for a quick visit to the falls. We are Kenyan residents but were still charged tourist prices after having shown our Kenyan driving licences. It would have cost us USD 50 for the family to get in. Which is 15x the price Kenyans would pay. Feeling it was a total ripoff (and not sure if these were the correct prices as the sign said it was a Ol Donyu Sabuk National Park but clearly when we got to the entrance it wasn't!). The lady at the entrance made it very clear that we could get in as residents if we paid her a bit extra under the table. We decided to turn around.

It was the first time to visit the place and had so much expectation. It is a fairly good place if you have company. However there are a few buts. the water stinks and its polluted. And the tour guides, they us charged 4500. Jeez!

First you thing you must be aware of when visiting anything in Kenya is that if you are a foreigner you must pay more, about ten times more than the locals. At the entrance there is a sign with prices informing about this.

When we got there we were approached by a local guide offering he's services. We agreed on a price and hired him.

After walking a bit we had to cross the river in a small boat, which ofcource also was an extra cost. On the other side we was met with a lot of garbage that the river had carried. The guide said they cleans the place after every rain season but much of it looked that it had been there a long time.

We were showed the beautiful falls, I fell into the water, climbed some rocks and then we took the small boat back. The guide told me he was going to dive from a cliff and asked if I could take a picture of it, which I confirmed. He went over there and jumped and came back.

Now we took the small boat back and the guide took us on a small extra trip with the boat.

Well on the way back the guide started talking about money. He told my gf which is a local that the price for the jump was about 25 times more than the price we had agreed on to start with and that he had told me that. So here the hassling and lying started. He tried to pressure us and we had to use much time to explain to the manager.

We ended up paint a little extra and left the place feeling scamed. Unfortunately that experience destroyed an experience that otherwise was were good.

So if you are going to fourteen falls, be aware of these things.
