Cute little museum featuring the region. Has all sorts of small little things that makes a museum for a unique region.

The local museum in Kutchan, near the Niseko slopes is surprisingly good. It has lots quite a lot to see for a small, regional museum. I liked the small rooms on the top floor, that were set up as real rooms, filled with the old items from days gone by. There was an old school house with chairs and desks and other bits and pieces and a room set up like an old railway station house with old memorabilia from the area. You can walk around and pretty much touch everything. They also have lots of stuffed animals from the area and a big map of the area on the floor, that you can walk all over. They were setting up a room with old skis while we were there.
There isn't much explanation in English, but it is pretty easy to follow. Great for kids too.
The art gallery is just across the courtyard, so we did both in a morning. They offer a combined ticket for both and we even got a free cup of coffee at the art gallery.

This museum is a hidden gem. We bought the combined entry ticket (with Shu Ogawa Museum). We liked this place better. We spent about one hour looking around.

There is the fallen WWII plane wing, old motor vehicles, simulations of old railway station, workshop, store, family home, school classroom. There is a lot of detail and care in these exhibits. I liked these exhibits because I had a sense of actually being there in that time.

On the biological side, there were taxidermy display of birds, foxes, squirrels, bears etc.

If you are on an extended ski trip, visit this place on your rest day. It is extraordinary.

The museum is just next to the Shu Ogawara Museum of Art and there is a discount for the entrance fee for both venues. The museum is actually a pleasant surprise for us as it gives quite a detail of the history of Kutchan. The exhibits includes the early life, natural habitats e.g. birds, animals, fishes, etc. There are actual exhibits that you can touch and feel (really cool staff!). There is also a wing of an WW2 warplane that crashed in Kutchan. Everything one needs to know about Kutchan is right here.

Nice way to spend an hour, it's very handy to the art gallery too. 200yen just for the museum or 500yen for both. Lots of taxidermy and rooms set up with old things etc

It was interesting to spend an hour at this museum. There are exhibits about the local animals (like a small dark brown bear), birds, etc. Also exhibits about normal life in Kutchan area in before WWII, and after it- Rooms depicting family life in the 50's, 60s, 70's etc.
