I cannot in good conscience give 5 stars as there are significant areas where GoSnow can improve and yet do not seem to be receptive to constructive feedback, nor do they respond to submitted feedback that they, in the first place, request. For the purpose of this review, I did 4 full day adult group lessons over the second week of February 2020. This review is written for potential attendees if you are considering GoSnow lessons.

The instructors are of varying levels as one can realistically expect, some were really, REALLY, great (special shout out for Guy and Karl!) and others were average university students on a working holiday. There is a large element of luck involved here and sometimes the group skill level is a hit and miss. A good instructor will be able to discern this on the first 'tester' run and triage this with appropriate questions e.g. "have you done a red run before" for all intermediate students so no one is too 'ahead' or 'behind. The most disappointing day was doing mostly green runs and an odd red at an intermediate level. Having a good instructor makes all the difference and is so worth it.

Regarding bookings, a reviewer below posted an excerpt of the rigid FAQs/Terms. I would strongly suggest NOT booking multipacks or a superpack and suggest being conservative in how many days you think you want/need. This was a commonly shared opinion in the groups I learnt in. I booked three days (3/4) and had to risk repeating levels and stagnancy in learning. I asked GoSnow if I could shift one day, and the answer was a very firm and unfriendly no. If I had to book again, I could have booked 2 days, rested one, and booked another. My last day of lessons (4/4) I booked the night before and there were no problems with availability. Also the equipment in the superpack is rented from a company called YamaSport (there are multiple vendors around Niseko with much cheaper rental rates and better equipment).

Overall, I had a good time with GoSnow and my skiing has improved significantly by way of guidance from great instructors such as Karl. If you are based in Hirafu, GoSnow has a virtual facility monopoly - meaning cordoned off areas and lift priority. This is actually a significant advantage of going with GoSnow over other ski schools such as Grand Hirafu or NBS. I would recommend the group lessons to anyone who's just starting out, but be aware and careful with GoSnow's rigid policies when booking.

Dear Clian23, Thank you for taking the time to review your experience at GoSnow. I am happy to hear you had some really great instructors like Karl and Guy and we will be sure to let them know your kind words. We are also glad that your skiing improved significantly with the instructors you had. Our priority lift lanes and learning areas are advantageous to help progress and maximise your time on the mountain. Often times we are able to move group lessons with advance notice, however, the lift passes are valid for consecutive days for the length that the SuperPack is booked for. This is a rule of the resort and the same for all lift passes. As the lift passes and SuperPack prices get cheaper the longer the booking, it would be more expensive to book each day separately but you are more than welcome to do so. Please note that when you skied this winter, there were no issues with availability but there can be limitations with certain products during the Christmas/New Year and Chinese New Year periods. Thank you again for your feedback and we hope to see you again the next time you are in Niseko. Kind regards, Kara Herbert GoSnow Guest Services Manager

We booked two days of private afternoon skiing lessons for my two boys, ages 9 and 6, and they loved it! Jan was an amazing instructor and when I picked up my boys, they were so happy to share all the cool things that Jan taught them. I liked how Jan provided a debrief after the lessons as well, sharing what the boys should continue to work on. I saw improvement in my boys and this was way better than me trying to teach my kids 😆. Amazing experience, I would highly recommend Go Snow and Jan!

We had private snowboarding lessons with Kain McWaters for 3 days but booked an extra lesson because he was such a good instructor. When you’ve had lots of instructors in previous years and get one as good as Kain, you know you want to get as many lessons as possible before your departure! We came away feeling confident and hugely positive about our progress. So much so, we’ve booked another snowboarding trip this season!
Kain was incredibly intuitive, knowledgeable and explained everything in such a clear and easy way. He also takes the time to get to know you and makes you feel at ease. A legend in his own right! Kain’s colleagues (sorry, I didn’t get names) were also super friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this company but particularly Kain if you are interested in a really positive snowboarding experience.

We skied for 5 days. Our oldest kids had one full day lesson, our youngest had three half day lessons and my partner and friend had a private lesson (4 hours).

Go Snow is affiliated with the lift co so they have a preferential line at the ski lift so you spend a lot of time learning.

Very international all with very good English and everyone felt it was some of the most fun lessons they have done.

I’d recommend them to anyone who want to work on their technique on holiday but be flexible with when they are in lessons.

Dear Mark S, We appreciate the time you have taken to provide feedback regarding your time at GoSnow. We are happy we were able to provide lessons for all ages in your family. Our priority lift lanes at Grand Hirafu certainly do allow you more time on snow with your instructor. We hope to see you next time you are in Niseko. Awful experience with Gosnow for our young beginner daughter. She was graded and placed with a grade too high. When she started crying on the first run (which went straight through trees and moguls) she was brought in and we were called as she was ‘sick’.

When arriving to get her, she was alone, crying at a table. At lunch she was sitting isolated at her own table whilst other kids all had company.

she was not sick at all just terrified. Once I convinced her to try again she was taken on joy rides on the gondola (hardly worth paying a ski school to do) and skied two easy runs which the instructor who immediately graded her down a level.

Gosnow’s response to our concerns about instructors not identifying abilities (or lack of), calling parents to take their child home (and take their money) for terrifying their child and the absolutely inexcusable care of an upset child was met with no understanding of any issue whatsoever.

Complete waste of money and time. It took the rest of the trip for us to fix the damage done by Gosnow and get her skiing again.

Dear Tamsin, Thank you for taking the time to review your experience at GoSnow. All group lessons start with a safety lap where the instructors can assess the ability level of the children to make sure they are with the correct group. There are a multiple times throughout the day that the children can be reassessed and moved, if need be, to a class progressing at the same pace. Your daughter was assessed to be in the black ninja class and therefore went through terrain applicable to this level, however, the class was not taken through a moguls course. Your daughter was brought indoors to our rest area because she was telling the instructor she was feeling sick. She was entertained there and well looked after by the staff. She was very happy to color-in by herself after eating her lunch. As soon as she saw her Mum, she began to cry which often happens with small children. After the lunch break, your daughter joined the rest of the ninja class and continued learning with the instructor. We had hoped our emails would have clarified what happened with your daughter in her lesson with GoSnow. We apologize if you have felt it was a waste of money but from all our accounts your daughter seemed to enjoy the time she was with us. Kind regards, Kara Herbert GoSnow Guest Services Manager

Finally decided to try snowboarding! Booked a 2-day private lesson through GoSnow, and was paired up with my snowboarding instructor Matt Dannenberg, which in my opinion, is the best instructor one can have for their first experience! He’s patient, fun, polite and encouraging! He even gave my boyfriend some free tips on his snowboarding when he coasted by to say hi!
Matt puts his student’s safety first, gives great instructions that are practical, clear, and easy to understand. He took time to identify my learning style (i.e. explaining by theory, demonstration or both…etc). But what I appreciated the most was the way he encouraged and reassured me on the slopes, and gave me the confidence to challenge myself! I had the best time – in two days, I successfully learnt toeside and heelside falling leaf, J & S turns, and even some super slow 360’s and a hop or two! I cannot thank Matt enough for the sickest time on the slopes – it’s safe to say I have officially switched over from skiing to snowboarding!

We just finished our trip to Niseko and engaged Maxi who taught us about 2 years ago. We liked him so much we specifically asked for him again. Two days with him this time was worth more than two weeks in a group class I am sure! Our kids learned so much from him and his teachings are so easy to grasp and anecdotes easy to follow that our skiing improved so much in just two hours of private classes over two days. Pl look for Maxi from Argentina!

Our daughter (8yrs) is now having the 3rd time skischool wit GoSnow. She loves it a lot and we can see her progress over the last 3 yrs.
one thing we really like is the flexibility of the groups. If she needs for the first day an easier group - they put her there (without any blaming feeling) and after 2-3 days she can be 2 groups higher as well. So she gets each day exactly the course she needs and feels happy.
The courses are not only skiing downhill. Besides the funny things you need to implement for children they do a lot of work for optimizing the skiing behavior and confidence in each situation...
Recommend GoSnow - at least for children (no experience for adults).

We took private lessons and Daniela was our instructor. She listened, watched us and took us from where we were to a new level of skiing. She identified some fundamental problems each of us had and through her ability to match her language and instructions to our knowledge level, turned our skiing around.
She was clever, funny and made our time with her enjoyable, fun and a very positive learning experience. Thank you very much Daniela.
