Best Hidden Gem of 2019
Sep 2019
We walked one of the walking routes (7.5 km) where the most impressive section was the Arboretum. The trees are massive and given the path lies in a lower part (than the main roads) you feel even smaller next to these immense trees. The entrance is the most impressive section. There are also plenty of life if you know where to look. Check out the patched of bamboo where you can find lots of robins. Look up to hear parrots that are flying over (rarely). You will notice plenty of dragonflies if the season is right.
There are also several tiny lakes/puddles here and there where you can spot a frog/toad. We weren't lucky this time but I will look better during our next visit.
Every now and then there are benches which can be used to admire these trees or have a snack, rest.

Walk on the calm side
Aug 2019
There are some spaces to park for folks that cannot reach the location any other way. Possibly you will visit with your pet! This is a wonderful space to walk. Amazing nature, long walkways, plenty of wildlife and even the odd human. A calming and vitalizing experience.

Great arboretum of Tervuren.
Aug 2019 • Couples
Great arboretum with marvelous trees and a big variety of species. You better explore the arboretum by walking, although there is a superb lane for biking from the village of Tervuren to Jesus Eik. You can walk the so named “Koninklijke Wandeling” of 5 kilometres. The arboretum is not fenced so you can continue for a lot of kilometres in the forest around.

Tervuren Arboretum

Great place to walk, run or ride a bike and get away from it all. Wide paths with some undulation to make life interesting. Large open meadows and some very interesting trees.

Beautiful nature park close to the city
Aug 2018
This is an artificially created wood close to Brussels, next to the Sonian Forest. The planning of the Geographical Arboretum of Tervuren began in the beginning of the 20th century on request of the King Leopold II.

It covers an area of about 100 hectares and includes hundreds different species of leafy and conifer trees featuring typical trees from the temperate climate zone of the Northern Hemisphere incl. North America, Europe and Asia.

if you have time, this is a great place to go for a walk, to jog/cycle or to have picknick.

Whilst the arboretum is a wonderful place unfortunately I have to only give the place 2 stars due to the over zealous parking warden who put a ticket on our car despite it being foreign. So as a warning to all visitors there are some very poorly marked blue disc zone. It’s not even a pay area yet they put a ticket on the car for not showing a blue disc which we had so if we had known would have used. So
Use one anyway is my advice now but it has tarnished our view of Tervuren and are very displeased with the private parking company that could not even give us a proper reply to our request to cancel the ticket as it was a genuine error. Shame the local restaurants and tourism will
Suffer due to this.

Among the greatest parks around the capital
Jan 2018 • Friends
The Arboretum stands out as one of the best green areas around Brussels, with a distinct atmosphere that makes a walk there a pleasant and relaxing experience. It's best combined with a visit to Tervuren, depending on weather conditions.

If you come early in the morning at dawn or in the evening at dusk, you have a good chance to see deer in the wild!

Great place for walks
Sep 2017 • Couples
With many possible trails to chose from and a wide variety in vegetation and scenery, there is something for everyone. From wide, easy accessible lanes to narrow trails between the trees, one can wander and wonder for hours on end. The sequoias, monkey tail trees and many ponds are worth looking for. The Warande (park) of Tervuren on one side and Sonian Forest on the other side offer even more possibilities.

Walk, take a breath
Aug 2017 • Couples
I reached Tervuren Park after taking tram 44 from the Montgomery tram stop in Brussels; its final destination is right on the park's doorstep. I was struck by how expansive the park is! There's enough space for thousands to roam around but not feel cramped. And there is not only the park to explore: many museums and the Sonian Forest await your exploration.

My advice is to take a picnic basket and make a morning or afternoon (or even day!) of it. Walk leisurely. Take a deep breath. It's not an opportunity you'll easily get elsewhere in Brussels.
