We were in Bali with a bunch of friend for some of whom this was the first time. Was looking to take them to an organised village theme place and chanced upon this. Some of the reviews did mention that it was a bit too touristy. I would say, so what? the whole village was so charming, spotless and clean. You get a tase of the village houses, temple and the complete setting with some handicraft shopping thrown in to help sustain the locals. Great concept for those who dont have the time to go explore by themselves and an opportunity to visit the inside of the compound of almost all the houses there. Loved the experience.

This little village has some interesting aspects. It is quite beautiful but of course also very touristy. The first interesting fact is that every house is open to everyone, neighbours and tourists alike. You can, even if you feel that this is a bit odd, wander into every house (or at least parts of it) and have a look around. Each house sells stuff as well. After the village there is a nice bamboo forest to explore.
The second interesting thing about this place is that men here are not allowed to have a second wife. However, should he still decide to have a second wife, he must move to the very last corner of the village. As of today, nobody has got a second wife. The plot is still free.

Last year, I spent my time in Bali for one week. Penglipuran Village is one of my favorite places in Bali. Beautiful village with friendly people and charming bamboo forest. this place is quite far from the city where I stayed, almost two hours from Kuta. but I still love it.

Nice to be back to Bali again as always.
We visited this village base on the good review here. And it was an amaizing trip we had. The village is so clean and organised, it really is different from the rest of Bali.

I highly recommended to visit this village!

This, for us, was an unexpected stop initiated by our driver.
Penglipuran is a tourist attraction based on the traditional Balinese village. It is still a village and is an insight into Balinese village life from days gone by.
It can get crowded by Indonesian tourists, but is a charming stop on the way to Agung.

Beautiful and clean village with nice mix of ornate carved stone walls. colourful flowers in neat gardens and a moss covered temple at the top of the village. Interesting family compounds most of which are selling souvenirs or drinks. Nice and tranquil instead of the usual hustle and bustle of other villages.

Exceedingly well cared for, immaculate gardens, and very clean - we have Balinese friends, and with no disrespect to them and their village compounds; this is travel brochure stuff. We were here as part of the woeful Bali Hai Bike Tour. We felt pressured to go into peoples houses - they sat outside beckoning us in, and then wanted us to see their shop, again, pressure to buy and to donate for the priviledge of looking at their houses. And the ultimate sell out - some members of the bike tour did take up the offer to look a womans house - and were appalled when in that house was a very elderly lady lying on the floor, looking almost dead; (initially they thought she was dead), and most definitely NOT needing or wanting any of us looking at her in her misery. What price integrity of elders? Somewhere else in Bali I saw a Balinese wearing a tee-shirt that said "Bali not for sale". Well, someone forgot to tell these villagers who appear to view this as an easy way to get a buck. If you want to see a real Balinese village, then ask your driver if he will take you to see his village, not this contrived affair.

thank you for your suggestion, we do not require any buyer to purchase any goods offered, it is part of the tourism industry, because this village into a tourist village, they rely on this as a place to make money. we will make improvements to it all, but now all has changed and the way the road is neatly laid out, and each of the bins

Penglipuran village located at Bangli, about 1,5 hours from Denpasar. Just pay Rp 15.000 to enjoy the true balinese culture and U can fell how friendly that place.

The village presents a natty architecture blend with classical carving. Every house has a Gapura "such as gate" and I like it. You must go there and feel the touch of balinese culture
