- _gobbledegookjdBirmingham, United Kingdom25 contributionsMy friend and I hadn’t ridden for many years but enjoyed a great day at the trekking centre. The owner was very welcoming and took great care in matching us all in the group to the most appropriate horse, depending upon our age and experience. The young handlers were very helpful and helped us to mount, making sure we were comfortable before we set off. We enjoyed an easy hour’s ride along trails, appreciating the countryside around us. The young handlers rode alongside us giving advice and making sure everyone was ok. Their presence was reassuring for the novice riders. Once back at the stables, there was time for photos and we were helped to dismount. My friend and I enjoyed every minute and rewarded ourselves with lunch in the very stylish Ranch Café on site. The food was excellent too! We hope to return in the Spring.Visited October 2024Traveled with friendsWritten October 31, 2024
- Jenny G11 contributionsAmazing setting. We went for a wonderful trek over Cannock Chase. It was advertised as a trek for all abilities and it really was. I felt that everybody was looked after and catered for. The owner made a real effort to take her time and match people with an appropriate mount. The staff were really friendly and it wasn’t intimidating at all, even for someone like me who’s not ridden in a while. Highly recommend.Visited August 2024Traveled with familyWritten August 23, 2024
- Shannon B1 contributionMy favourite place ever! My first ever horse experience was here, I came having never ridden a horse before but staff were great at teaching me the basics and making sure I was safe and comfortable but also giving me just the right amount of push to ensure I had a good time. My first ever canter was also here, I had no formal lessons, the girls stayed next to me the whole time, talking me through and giving me pointers to improve (and making sure I was safe). 10 months into my riding journey and now having had some lessons, I feel so much more comfortable on the horse and I am extremely grateful to CCTC to starting my love for riding and always making me feel so welcome. Staff will come and chat to you as you are riding and even in the busier rides, will always make time for 1:1 with each customer. Thank you Lisa and the team and of course the wonderful horsesVisited April 2024Traveled soloWritten April 23, 2024
- SaraLovesToTravelLos Angeles, California38 contributionsLet me tell you just how lovely this experience was. My boyfriend surprised me for my birthday and we drove down to Cannock Chase Trekking Centre. I had no idea where we were going or what we were doing and as soon as we parked I got out of the car to be greeted by 2 adorable goats and a couple of sheep (this = Sara in her happy place!!!) Once I realized we'd be horse riding my excitement soared. The front desk staff quickly fitted us with helmets and had us sign our waivers and then we were off. The staff were absolutely lovely. Checking in on our experience levels, how comfortable we were throughout, answering any questions we had and in all generally providing a very safe and fun environment. We had perfect overcast and even bits of sunny weather up until the last 5 minutes when it started to hail. I'm so grateful for my horse Splash, he was a true stubborn gentleman :) After we were finished with our ride, we popped inside to an incredibly cozy sitting area to warm up and had a Carmel cappuccino and a tasty treat each. I would definitely recommend to anyone curious. I will definitely come back as I would like to better learn how to trot.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 29, 2024
- Vicky B7 contributionsI planned a riding weekend away from home and stayed in a hotel close to the trekking centre. I have been on the two hour hacks every day from Friday to Sunday, even going twice on Saturday! I have had a wonderful break. I feel it's been a unique experience in that the staff are friendly and professional, the horses are safe but have character and the ability to be forward going for the right rider. Every person feels taken care of and is matched with the right horse for them. Lisa, the owner, does this in a fun and entertaining way! The bistro is amazing! I have travelled to Cannock alone but feel I've met a very special and unique equine family ❤️Visited June 2024Traveled soloWritten June 29, 2024
- sally l7 contributionsWhat a find, situated on the edge of the stunning Cannock Chase area, we rode through beautiful heathers, through streams, woodland and open spaces, past resting deers too. We had multiple long canters, trots and stunning walks over the two hours. The horses are stunning (54 of them!) all sizes, and they are all so considerate, it felt like whatever your level they would look after you. Lisa the host and owner has bred and trained most of them and she has a great connection with them too (and they with her) it’s beautiful to watch. An absolute gem of a trekking centre, there is also an awesome bistro for lunch, and so much more. Cant believe we didn’t find it sooner!Visited June 2024Traveled soloWritten June 28, 2024
- merryatk123England, United Kingdom1 contributionWe had a fantastic time on our ride, I rode Nymeria and she was a dream. Lisa is so knowledgeable and clearly loves her horses as they are all so well cared for and enjoying life! The staff helping out with the ride were all really friendly and, even though we were a large group, they were so organised and attentive. We even had photos taken by a professional photographer which was an added bonus! We stopped in the bistro afterwards too and spent at least an hour there. Great food and atmosphere and lovely staff. We will certainly visit again!Visited September 2024Traveled with friendsWritten September 15, 2024
- Anna O2 contributionsI made a new friend over the weekend, her name was Kitty a beautiful Presian horse that I had the pleasure of meeting at the Cannock Chase Trekking Centre. What an unforgettable experience that has given me a new passion for horse riding. The owner and staff put you right at ease, are extremely knowledgeable and the horses are very well looked after and trained. The scenery was stunning as I along with about twenty other mixed ability riders rode through cannock chase, a beautiful area of woodland and countryside in Staffordshire. This was my first time riding a horse and I really look forward to going again. I am already planning my next trip.Visited July 2024Traveled with friendsWritten July 31, 2024

But also we enjoy coming for good food and a great place for meet ups so for those who wish not to ride settle in front of a log fire with some of the best coffee and amazing food, stay all day you'll be welcome 🤗 for those who need a work break there are some sockets and highly recommended for peace and creative time for reflecting and inspiring new work. For anyone wanting a special event these are beautiful here, we've held adult celebrations including birthday and baby showers and all have been supported, reserved and just perfect xXx Thank you for all the special memories we've shared over the years, they are cherished and look forward to seeing you all again very soon.Visited January 2025Traveled with familyWritten January 10, 2025

Had an afternoon mixed ability ride with my wife and two teenage children. We arrived early and had some lunch in the cafe attached to the stables which was good value and very tasty.
All staff very friendly and attentive throughout our afternoon especially the owner who took time matching up the horses with the riders. Seemed a lot of people on the ride to start with, perhaps 20 or so but there were loads of experienced riders working with the group that you were always close to someone who knew what to do and give some advice. All the girls were really chatty and friendly and helped to put everyone at ease. Horses really well behaved and all lovely, great equipment and expense has obviously not been spared in setting up this business.
I’ve only ridden a horse a couple of times before but as mentioned owner and staff are very hands on and ensure you are happy and have a great time. I would hesitate to do this ride again and would really recommend if you’re in the area and want a great fun afternoon. Our ride duration was 2 hours but shorter rides also available.

I’ve been here a couple of times now on the afternoon mixed ability ride as I work most mornings and can’t make the morning advanced ride. As someone who has been to many other hacking stables, Im really not sure what the big fuss is about this place when really its quite a mediocre riding centre.
The bistro looks nice and modern and is a good place to hang out and relax before or after riding. The food selection is basic but worst its really expensive…a fiver for a bacon sarnie! And £2 for a can of pop…unimaginable
The horses stand outside in a pen thing with no shelter all tacked up, seems unfair on them. The owner assigns us a horse based on experience as told by the riders on the day. Every ride I had been on had lots people on it, way too many in my opinion, 20+ riders of different ability. Mounting took a long time, well over 30
mins to get everyone on a horse. Once out there it was all single file, every horse was more or less nose to tail, all very robotic and unnatural.
The majority of the ride was at walk because of the beginners on the ride, which is fine. part way through the experienced riders got the opportunity to canter. The canters were okay, couple of strides every time if that, nothing exhilarating or exciting like advertised
Horses seemed so bored and uninterested in the world around them which made me feel really sorry for them. Im almost sure the horse I rode the very last time I came was lame, felt a little off but I am no big expert so I cant truly say for certain.
Overall I think the trekking centre is okay, overhyped massively for sure, it definitely suits novice/one off riders better than it does advanced riders. For £65 it doesn’t seem really worth it

I ride here twice a week and would ride every day if my pension allowed me! As a rider who learned more than 50 years ago, has owned her own horses and is a retired professional equestrian and racing journalist, I cannot rate this establishment more highly. The horses are cared for to the highest standards and thoroughly enjoy their work. They have an uncanny knack of being able to switch down through the gears to carefully and safely carry a beginner, while maintaining the enthusiasm to provide an exhilarating experience for a knowledgeable rider. Safety is paramount, and owner Lisa and her staff will devote plenty of time to the task of selecting the right horses for the clients. Obviously, school holidays can be busy as Cannock Chase is an area of Outstanding National Beauty and very popular but off peak rides are smaller and more intimate, while the horses have plenty of time off to make up for their busy days. Lisa and the team are professional, thoughtful and caring in their approach to the horses and to their riders. I would not ride anywhere else.

The staff were incredibly friendly, organised, knowledgeable and good at their jobs. Erin was lovely and was telling me funny little things about my horses personality. They made the 2 hour trek a wonderful experience, we felt safe with them as guides checking in with us but had enough space to get to know our horses and chat with other riders. We honestly cannot fault anything! The horses are all stunning, especially Lola 🥰 they are all happy and well matched to riders abilities. We had a great trek with relaxed time to take in the scenery and a few canters added to the excitement. Just when we thought it couldn’t get any better we returned to the spotless cafe and enjoyed delicious ice cold milkshakes. My friend and I will be booking again as soon as we can !

I have been riding here for many years and can heartily recommend it to everyone from experienced riders to complete beginners. Lisa and her lovely team all go above and beyond to ensure a safe and enjoyable trek tailored to the abilities of the riders. There is a good range of beautiful and well cared-for horses and Lisa always spends time chatting to each rider to ensure she pairs you with the perfect equine partner. The rides are varied taking you through the beautiful forests and heathlands of Cannock Chase. Before and after you can relax over coffee and delicious food in the wonderful bistro which makes the experience that bit more special. If you’re looking for a great day out in Staffordshire, look no further. This place is a real gem.

I went today a sunny Feb afternoon with my 11yr old daughter. Mixed ability group for two hour trek. Took awhile to get such a large group organised and onto the right horse to suit ability, but reassuring that time is taken to get to know skills level and rider before being matched.
While out the guides are chatting to you while watching how you handle yourself on the horse for first 30 min. The group is then spilt into those who wish to canter and up the pace and those who wish to remain a-little more gentle.
As long as guides are happy you’re capable, they’ll organise horses into the order that will best suit the group.
Was a great experience on very steady happy healthy horses/ponies. Got a full two hours out on amazing tracks. Had to cross quiet road on way out and way back guides stopped the cars and handled things really well.
Felt confident in the team we were out with and both daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
I look forward to returning, and would highly recommend.

Me and my 8 year old daughter had a fantastic time here doing the one hour trek. All the horses looked well cared for and our two horses were beautiful and very well behaved. Lisa, the owner, was friendly and welcomed everyone and identified which horses were suitable for which people. The staff were great in briefing you of what to do, getting you on your horse and riding alongside the trek they ensured everyone was safe. I noticed they had ear pieces so they could communicate to each other, which was very reassuring. Special thanks to the man who was helping everyone get prepared as he made sure I was able to ride behind my daughter and gave us some useful tips.
My son and husband waited in the lovely bistro, where they ate whilst we trekked. They’d ordered us food for our return, and I enjoyed one of the best bacon sandwiches I’ve ever had, along with a delicious latte.
It didn’t matter than we hadn’t ridden before, we felt safe and it was so good to take a break from the hustle and bustle of busy lives. We will definitely be returning,

I went yesterday with a girlfriend visiting from Australia and we had a fantastic time. The lunch in their cafe was really good (try the BLT, the bacon is fabulous), and we were both very honest about out riding abilities - therefore we got matched to perfect horses. We did a two hour trek with their friendly staff, splitting into two rides (one faster, one slower) midway through the trek, we both had a great time in our respective groups. Horses are in top notch condition, and the facilities and cafe are great. Will definitely return.

Fantastic riding experience in a beautiful setting.
I’ve been learning to ride for a week long trek in New Zealand. The regular weekend rides of 2 hours have accelerated my riding ability and enjoyment, has been just what was needed. I’ve ridden many different horses which has improved my riding no end. I couldn’t recommend it more highly. Cannock is the place to ride!

Had enjoyable and memorable day at the Cannock Chase Trekking Centre.
Bad weather was forecast but you are almost completely sheltered in the Cannock chase woods so not a problem.
Great day had by all- kids, adults and teenagers.
Staff friendly and helpful
Coffee, milkshake, cake and ice cream in the cafe were delicious too.
Highly recommended!

Yes it does. It is a professionally run business. There are different prices for a host of equestrian activities and all the prices are on the Cannock Chase Centre website.

Hi, I just wondered if anyone can help. My partner is a novice, however I used to ride and we have just purchased the experience for my birthday and as i haven't ridden since about 12 I am a both nervous and excited ! Does anyone know what a 1 hour trek involves?
Is it a whole hour trek or does training and getting ready come into that hour ?
Thanks
Written December 2, 2015
I have done a 1 hour hack twice and on both occasions you rode for the entire hour and it is mostly walking interspersed with little trots. You are monitored (discreetly!) as this is a beginner's ride and guidance is given on trotting to those new to it. Its very relaxed and a lovely way to introduce those new to trekking. Highly recommended.

can you loan horses for 1 or 2 hours? :)
Written October 15, 2015
I am not sure what you are asking for , you are at a trekking centre so you are on a horse for a ride that is to your ability with a group of other riders, if you what to go off on a horse by yourself you will have to ask at the trekking centre about this
