- Ali G5 contributionsFantastic HacksAbsolutely fabulous centre. Friendly staff and the owner is knowledgeable and enthusiastic. I went as a Christmas present after 6 years out if the saddle. Rode a wonderful horse who was well trained and responsive. It was the best therapy session ever and I will be returning. Even better is the coffee in the Bistro afterwards to warm back up. Well priced and good value with a view to the animals. This is, quite honestly , a magical place.Visited December 2022Traveled soloWritten December 29, 2022
- CMiddletonNewcastle-under-Lyme, United Kingdom170 contributionsSuch a fantastic location for a trekking centreI went solo on the 2 hour experienced hack as a Xmas treat to myself. All horses are very well looked after. Great facilities and location. Everyone is matched to a horse/ pony then off you go into the wilderness. Such a beautiful setting for hacking with only one road to cross. I really enjoyed it. My only suggestion would of been it would of been better if the staff had hiviz on so it's easier for people to see who they are in such big groups. Especially as it was my first time going. Other than that I will be back again.Visited December 2022Traveled soloWritten January 5, 2023
- Emma B4 contributionsBrilliant trekking centreWe had a brilliant experience at this trekking centre. I used to ride but not for a number of years so it was brilliant to get back into the saddle. My partner cannot ride and he really enjoyed himself. Very helpful staff, beautiful horses and lovely surroundings, all off road. We also got the chance to practise trotting and more experienced riders could also canter. A massive thank you to the staff when I stupidly lost my car key and they couldn’t do enough for us. Also a lovely cafe to have a drink/ lunch in. Would highly recommend!Visited February 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten February 22, 2023
- maggie bBrewood, United Kingdom61 contributionsMy special placeI have been riding here for almost 20 years, weekly when I can. I am not as young as I was (understatement) so I particularly value the wonderful range of safe and sensible, but still forward going, horses that I am still able to ride. The staff are, without exception, all lovely - patient, helpful, kind and considerate, and they help me mount and dismount, as my grotty knees do get in the way, as they used not to! Safety first is at the heart of trekking, and, whilst we all have a great time on treks, Lisa and her team ensure all riders only do what is within each one's capability (and a few folks' self estimation is not always accurate!). Lisa and team are always mindful of the safety, not just of each individual rider, but of the ride as a whole. Her horses are very well-loved, and beautifully cared for, and it shows. She and her team are all excellent riders and instil confidence. The opportunity to ride out over Cannock Chase is very special, as it is England's smallest area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (ONB) and, apart from the stunning scenery, we often see deer, and other wildlife. The scenery changes with each passing season, and is very lovely in late summer when the heather blooms into vast stretches of purple. Finally, there is a super, comfy Ranch-House, a log fire cosily burning on cold days, and good food and drinks (hot and cold) served all day (smart loos too!). My visits here are the highlight of my week.Visited February 2023Written February 24, 2023
- Annette A2 contributionsGreat experience for horse lovers. You could just tell everything was done with love and attention to detail. Can't find fault with anything. Three of us took our granddaughter for a 2 hour trek. Unfortunately the other grandparent was ill. Layla absolutely loved the experience and felt very well looked after. She is 11 and had 1/2 lessons for approximately 18months. She definitely wants to go back as do 2 of the 4 grandparents to actually have a trek themselves. Just bothered about the pain afterwards. Eating facilities and great staff. Clean, friendly and caring.Visited February 2023Traveled with familyWritten February 25, 2023

- MrsSAHillLeighton Buzzard, United Kingdom4 contributionsGreat mother daughter afternoon ride out.I went today a sunny Feb afternoon with my 11yr old daughter. Mixed ability group for two hour trek. Took awhile to get such a large group organised and onto the right horse to suit ability, but reassuring that time is taken to get to know skills level and rider before being matched. While out the guides are chatting to you while watching how you handle yourself on the horse for first 30 min. The group is then spilt into those who wish to canter and up the pace and those who wish to remain a-little more gentle. As long as guides are happy you’re capable, they’ll organise horses into the order that will best suit the group. Was a great experience on very steady happy healthy horses/ponies. Got a full two hours out on amazing tracks. Had to cross quiet road on way out and way back guides stopped the cars and handled things really well. Felt confident in the team we were out with and both daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I look forward to returning, and would highly recommend.Visited February 2023Traveled with familyWritten February 26, 2023
- 1Beaumont2004Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom11 contributionsFirst class Yrekking experienceWhat a fantastic 1st class experience we had from booking to having the two hour trek. Every detail to ensure we were given the correct pony from our weight and height to experience was carefully considered. The owners were also riding with us along with other experienced teachers to ensure our safety and enjoyment. The centre for refreshments was also first class. Thank you so much . - Gretchen M10 contributionsA Dream Come True!!!!I had an absolutely amazing time riding at the Cannock Chase Trekking Centre!! My trek was part of a solo trip I took and I couldn't have been happier spending the morning here. Every person I talked to, whether it was the owner, office and bistro staff, or regular riders, was a joy to know and interact with. The horses were beautiful and so well cared for - it is obvious that their enrichment and livelihood is of top priority. I am an advanced rider with 15 plus years of experience and the advanced trek was perfect for the adventure I was looking for. It was a thrilling and joyful ride across the beautiful landscape of Cannock Chase and I will remember it always!!!Visited March 2023Written March 31, 2023

I’ve been here a couple of times now on the afternoon mixed ability ride as I work most mornings and can’t make the morning advanced ride. As someone who has been to many other hacking stables, Im really not sure what the big fuss is about this place when really its quite a mediocre riding centre.
The bistro looks nice and modern and is a good place to hang out and relax before or after riding. The food selection is basic but worst its really expensive…a fiver for a bacon sarnie! And £2 for a can of pop…unimaginable
The horses stand outside in a pen thing with no shelter all tacked up, seems unfair on them. The owner assigns us a horse based on experience as told by the riders on the day. Every ride I had been on had lots people on it, way too many in my opinion, 20+ riders of different ability. Mounting took a long time, well over 30
mins to get everyone on a horse. Once out there it was all single file, every horse was more or less nose to tail, all very robotic and unnatural.
The majority of the ride was at walk because of the beginners on the ride, which is fine. part way through the experienced riders got the opportunity to canter. The canters were okay, couple of strides every time if that, nothing exhilarating or exciting like advertised
Horses seemed so bored and uninterested in the world around them which made me feel really sorry for them. Im almost sure the horse I rode the very last time I came was lame, felt a little off but I am no big expert so I cant truly say for certain.
Overall I think the trekking centre is okay, overhyped massively for sure, it definitely suits novice/one off riders better than it does advanced riders. For £65 it doesn’t seem really worth it

I have been riding here for many years and can heartily recommend it to everyone from experienced riders to complete beginners. Lisa and her lovely team all go above and beyond to ensure a safe and enjoyable trek tailored to the abilities of the riders. There is a good range of beautiful and well cared-for horses and Lisa always spends time chatting to each rider to ensure she pairs you with the perfect equine partner. The rides are varied taking you through the beautiful forests and heathlands of Cannock Chase. Before and after you can relax over coffee and delicious food in the wonderful bistro which makes the experience that bit more special. If you’re looking for a great day out in Staffordshire, look no further. This place is a real gem.

I ride here twice a week and would ride every day if my pension allowed me! As a rider who learned more than 50 years ago, has owned her own horses and is a retired professional equestrian and racing journalist, I cannot rate this establishment more highly. The horses are cared for to the highest standards and thoroughly enjoy their work. They have an uncanny knack of being able to switch down through the gears to carefully and safely carry a beginner, while maintaining the enthusiasm to provide an exhilarating experience for a knowledgeable rider. Safety is paramount, and owner Lisa and her staff will devote plenty of time to the task of selecting the right horses for the clients. Obviously, school holidays can be busy as Cannock Chase is an area of Outstanding National Beauty and very popular but off peak rides are smaller and more intimate, while the horses have plenty of time off to make up for their busy days. Lisa and the team are professional, thoughtful and caring in their approach to the horses and to their riders. I would not ride anywhere else.

This was my second 1 hour trek since last autumn. My first trek left me grinning fur days! I’m 50 not ridden for years but what a joy my ride was. My horse Splash a 15.2hh cob happily carried my extra lockdown weight trotting uphill no problem such a gentleman. I never felt anxious he would do anything to worry me and responded to my tentative commands. The staff on both treks have been welcoming, friendly, putting me at ease and never critical only encouraging and gentle. Their joy and love of the horses and their jobs is wonderful. The coffee was good too served outside the bistro of course. Can’t wait to return think it’s going to be so monthly pay cheque treat and why not. Don’t hesitate have some fun see the beautiful chase from up high.

Lisa and her team were lovely and made us feel very welcome. Lisa took the time to chat to me whilst on the ride which was so nice and I really liked how she spent time finding the best horse for each person. She knows each and every one of her horses and she took the time to ask each rider’s preferences. How lovely! The ride was super, the horses are clearly well taken care of and we thoroughly enjoyed our time. The ranch cafe is delightful and sitting with coffee and cake with views of the horses post ride is time well spent. We will be back! Thank you Lisa and your lovely team.

The staff were incredibly friendly, organised, knowledgeable and good at their jobs. Erin was lovely and was telling me funny little things about my horses personality. They made the 2 hour trek a wonderful experience, we felt safe with them as guides checking in with us but had enough space to get to know our horses and chat with other riders. We honestly cannot fault anything! The horses are all stunning, especially Lola 🥰 they are all happy and well matched to riders abilities. We had a great trek with relaxed time to take in the scenery and a few canters added to the excitement. Just when we thought it couldn’t get any better we returned to the spotless cafe and enjoyed delicious ice cold milkshakes. My friend and I will be booking again as soon as we can !

If you love horses and beautiful scenery, this place is for you. Lisa (owner) has an amazing selection of horses and takes great care to find one to match your riding ability. The centre is extremely well run and her staff are superb; they are always friendly and are constantly keeping a check to make sure everyone is safe.
I have ridden with them several times now and have seen them deal with all sorts of situations always calmly and with absolute professionalism. I can not praise them highly enough.
Make sure you visit the Ranch too - best coffee ever!!

This is indeed a hidden jewel in the crown. I called into the Ranch with my elderly parents for a flat white coffee, the best that I had tasted since visiting New Zealand several years ago. What a lovely light and airy spacious building with a ranch feel to it. The owner Lisa came across to us and made us feel very welcome, her staff were experimenting with a new menu and Lisa brought us a ham and cheese baguette and a ploughman's baguette to sample. They were both very tasty. We'll certainly be visiting again, possibly pony trekking next time (although with my wife rather than nonagenarian parents!)

Hi, I just wondered if anyone can help. My partner is a novice, however I used to ride and we have just purchased the experience for my birthday and as i haven't ridden since about 12 I am a both nervous and excited ! Does anyone know what a 1 hour trek involves?
Is it a whole hour trek or does training and getting ready come into that hour ?
Thanks

I have done a 1 hour hack twice and on both occasions you rode for the entire hour and it is mostly walking interspersed with little trots. You are monitored (discreetly!) as this is a beginner's ride and guidance is given on trotting to those new to it. Its very relaxed and a lovely way to introduce those new to trekking. Highly recommended.

I am not sure what you are asking for , you are at a trekking centre so you are on a horse for a ride that is to your ability with a group of other riders, if you what to go off on a horse by yourself you will have to ask at the trekking centre about this

Thank you for your enquiry, we do not loan out our horses, we provide guided treks through Cannock Chase, weekends are our busiest times, our treks are much quieter during the week. We can also offer private treks. Please refer to our website or contact us if you would like any further information.
